As a long time SU FB season ticket holder and lurker on this board, I first want to says thanks to all those who make this forum a success. I truly look forward to visiting/reading your posts every day.
Someone mentioned that Doug M. should back off, let his players have some fun, and give them all a hug. Well, I think some of us fans also need a hug, because I'm not having much fun watching a team that hasn't shown improvement in any single area of the game (i.e. offense, defense, special teams).
You can't blame it on injuries so I guess the burden falls on the shoulders of the coaches and players. Lack of effort, lack of talent, poor coaching? Probably some of each since the whole is truly made up by the sum of its parts.
I do cringe when SU's first possession more often than not consists two unsuccessful runs up the middle followed by a quick three and out. Where's the pass/run mix? Where's the surprise?
What I'm most disappointed about this year is the lack of productivity and consistency from an offense that returned 9 of the 11 starters from 2010: Grade D.
I didn't expect much from the defense due to the large number of new players. Grade C.
Special teams again are not very special: Grade C. Hiring a full-time STs coach should help.
I look forward to the day when the fun returns to watching SU football. (Hopefully I live long enough to see that day.) Hey, you never know, look at the Bills.
Keep up the good work.
