Notre Dame Post Mortem Thread...

Well, what's unfortunate is that the team has just collapsed. Once Rickie Collins showed that he wasn't up to it, and apparently Carney and his parents declined to take the opportunity, in order to preserve an extra year of eligibility, then we were kind of toast.

But when the poop has hit the fan with key injuries to past teams, we adapted better than we have under Fran and his crew. It feels like the coaches kind of gave up on the season with some of the decisions they've made these past few weeks. I think they could have managed all of this better.
That is the easiest thing...point the finger at the Coach. I watched our offensive line...let men directly on their head, run right past them for a sack.....missed tackles on the edge...allowing guys to run untouched for long touchdowns...I watched our wide recievers make blocks on the edge, allowing their man to make tackles for a loss on flair passes and bubble screens. We have a huge talent gap at most positions on the field. I don't know what you would like to have seen the coaches do differently. With the poor play of Sr. players, why not play young players and help develop them for the future. Once Angeli went down...and it was clear that we had no competent replacement, with our remaining schedule, it was clear we had no chance of winning. We looked like a middle school team playing against varsity teams...We had no QB!!! how can you win at this level...with No QB? With an offense with no ability to score, exposed all of our defensive weaknesses...This situation...not having a Power 4 quality back up QB, was the end of our season. Missing on Ricky...Was huge!!!

Seems to me that the problem is that this coaching staff didn't really have a "Plan B" if we couldn't play the way we wanted / intended to.

They could have eked out a little more productivity with something creative. Zero adjustments. Slow developing straight ahead runs w a line that cannot block & runners who cannot run. Really unimpressed.

Yep. This O line is built for pass protection, not the running game,

Now, you might say that a good line, and a good line coach, should be able to do both with the personnel.

We've had some outstanding line coaches in the 60 years that I've been a fan. But it's been a while.

We are the worst team in college football and I’m not joking. How the heck did it get this bad? This is way more than just losing Angeli.
The loss of Angeli magnified our weaknesses. We have a huge talent gap at most positions when compared to the teams we play with the exception of punter and Corners. With no capable Power 4 back up QB, and a very poor offensive line that can't block, we had an offense that could not score at all! This then put extreme pressure on our defense, which lacked talent on the defensive line , line backer and safety. People want to blame coaches...I think the blame is the lack of talent. Our recruiting has improved with Coach Fran, let's see if better players, some proven talent in the portal and the return of Angeli for two more seasons, improves our standing.

Our Plan B was Collins...and he was a bust! We had no plan C and we needed one!

I think this effort today is on Fran. He sent out 4 freshman as game captains vs Miami. I can see why he may have done it but I think he signaled to the team that this season is done and he is building for the future. This loss was so much more than a talent differential. The players effort was lacking in all phases. We were down 21-0 before ND even went on offense and 42-0 16 minutes into the game. SU was COMPLETELY unprepared to play today and Fran owns that. The question is will he learn from it.

Bought tickets to this game in the offseason because I thought it would be fun to see an Angeli return game.

That was the most embarrassed I have ever been inside a stadium.

The conversation around us was how ND needs to stop playing ACC teams and how the top 20 schools need to break away from bottom feeders like us.

In my opinion, head coaches should not be learning on the job. Fran can't talk the talk and then put out this unwatchable and frankly rancid product
