Notre Dame vs The World

I love you all but this is sounding like a bad case of envy of ND. ND is more prestigious when you look at the totality of their academics and athletics the SU...can we accept that?
Regardless of historical football success and academic rankings, I'd like to think Wildhack would not do literally any of the things Bevacqua has done over the last 4 days. And Bevacqua isn't acting alone in this...it wasn't a one off emotional comment in an interview immediately after the selection came out. The university scheduled a press conference for the sole purpose of throwing shade at Phillips, the ACC, and ESPN. How prestigious is it to act like a monkey throwing poop on everything in sight when you don't get what you perceive that you deserve?

Agree. Poor babies.

I think back on all the deserving teams that have been passed over for bowls through the years so that ND could get selected. Not to mention all the teams that got screwed by the refs in South Bend.

Not to mention, SU vs ND 1961.

So I am more than happy to raise a glass of Irish whiskey and laugh at ND until my sides hurt.

I don't hold grudges. I remember things.

Forever.

The ACC still needs Notre Dame so hopefully they repair the damage...Notre Dame AD was definitley out of line.

Not really. The ACC won't exist in 6 years. So what does having ND around for those 6 years really do?

ND needs the ACC if they want to keep independence. This seems like a repeat of the Big East. Notre Dame never foresaw the end of the Big East so they were always takers and not real partners. They are acting the same way now without realizing that they need the ACC to be a stable long term option.

I agree, along with considering the relatively small size (eliteist) type private school that it is.

ND hasn't anywhere near the stature and weight it once carried in the US, parallel to the causal related Catholic religion, which has continued its general decrease and, let's just say, significance it once possessed in this country.

As a 100% Italian, raised strict Roman Catholic, I'm opining from my circle/experiences of familia, etc. Most of my elder relatives, etc., including my today 95 year old dad, were/are huge ND fans, strictly due to its Catholic identity, ties, etc. However, this affiliation, interest, etc. doesn't exist anywhere close to the same degree with my generation of relatives, and certainly not with the younger.

Being a relatively small private, along with the mentioned general decrease in the Catholic significance, et al, I imagine moving forward, ND's noteworthiness overall will likely only continue to fade as well in the general realm.
You make some very valid points. That said, Freeman is recruiting at an extremely high level. Top 3 class again this year.

Athletic directors in other leagues, who learned from Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger on Sunday about the memorandum of understanding that grants Notre Dame preferential playoff access, are threatening to freeze them out of future schedules. (Who knows if they’ll follow through. For all its issues, Notre Dame fills stadiums and drives TV ratings.)

Well said, I grew up in a mostly Irish/Italian Catholic community. I’ll always remember the Notre Dame apparel “old people” used to wear in the 90’s. I’d assume many of them aren’t around these days. I haven’t seen any Notre Dame apparel in years as that culture faded, but you’ll find Bama and Georgia stuff as things like country music become ultra popular. Long story short, you’re right, this isn’t a nationally relevant product in the way they assume.

It's fun to watch ND start to crumble like Rome in real time.

They don’t. Not anymore.

Once upon a time, when the BCS ruled the land and bowl tie ins were important, ND was a net positive for the ACC

Now, with a 12 team CFP, soon to be 16? Nope. They’re not adding much to the media deal. Just 2-3 football games a year that ACC members could easily instead play against top flight B1G or SEC teams to get the same attendance and TV value.

Honestly, at this point the ACC should tell ND to go join the Big East.

I don't think that they could pull off the Big East and FB Indy any longer. Even with the 5 ACC games it will be hard for them to have 10 P4 games every year going forward. The P4s will be at 9+1 which leaves fewer spots for ND to fill. Without the 5 ACC games it becomes even harder.

I am sure BC, Pitt, Stanford will be willing to keep playing ND every year. But that still leaves ND in a hole. Any team with playoff aspirations will not want to play ND past Columbus Day. Even with Navy, a G6, the 3 ACC teams mentioned above, and a bye week, ND will still need to play 2 other games. I suppose they could get games vs bottom to middling P4 programs, but that will hurt ND's SOS similar to this year where they played nobody after A&M.

Without the ACC deal, ND might be forced to join a conference.

It's really time for Notre Dame to place their other sports somewhere else. The ACC needs to work out an arrangement for every ACC team to schedule an SEC team as an opponent every year.
Our SEC opponent needs to be Auburn because of Tie Dye. Espn gets more good games every year, and it adds to the basketball games.

The ACC deal should never have happened in my opinion. But it did and we have to live with it until 2030? When does it expire actually? Whenever it does, or if ND wants out before then, the ACC needs to hold the line: ALL IN or enjoy your independence for everything. ND brings nothing but 1 game of ticket sales to ~3 ACC teams each year. Nothing really when all other costs are weighed in for Olympic sports.

No we don't need Notre Dame, what ESPN and the ACC needs is every team scheduling a yearly game with the SEC. That way we can develope rivalries and make more money for ourselves and ESPN.
It will also help in recruiting for both conferences. Plus a united front against the Big.
