Notre Dame vs The World

That’s regular season broadcast rights. Disney (ESPN family/ABC has the rights to all CFP games.
YES! EXACTLY! Why would ESPN want to promote ND, when they can market the brands they have the rights to broadcast for next season? You have to think big picture here.

Understand, but think it’s a bit of a stretch. Short term advertising rates driven by ratings are as important, or more important, than longer term brand building. Especially since ABC/ESPN has the rights to at least one quarter of Notre Dame’s regular season (games played at ACC venues.)
Again I understand your thinking but my perspective is that the last two at large spots were driven by the committee examining on field performance over the course of the full year, not a dictate from ESPN money grabbing overlords. Maybe I’m just naive,

So we happy if ND leaves the arrangement with the ACC? I’m confused as to what we are rooting for here?

I personally like them part of the ACC. Academics are in top 3 even if it’s not helping our academic standing which seems to drop yearly.

That's a fair point, thanks for the discussion. Maybe I am just grasping at straws here. I have seen so many of my loves be ruined by private equity/big business (Jersey Mikes comes to mind, how quality is diminished for a profit boost.) I have gotten a bit emotional, trying to get the board to understand my perspective, so I apologize!

You guys all miss the big picture, the entire point.

ND wants to end up permanently right where it is, a football independent.

It doesn't want to join, create, or stabilize a conference.

ND does not believe it will ever be forced into a conference.

Right after the playoff teams were announced, ND AD Pete Bevacqua said this:

"We love being independent in football. It’s part of our DNA,” Bevacqua said. “We have zero intention of changing that. It’s part of who Notre Dame is. Quite frankly, this further cements our independence. We are out there fighting for ourselves. That’s something we accept.”

Of course Bevacqua is fine, they have an MOU for having guaranteed inclusion if they are top 12 starting next year. Next year they have three true road games: @Purdue, @UNC and at Cuse. Wiscy and USC will be neutral. They do not play Michigan. He knows barring something unforeseen they should have stacked odds to make the playoffs after a one year hiatus.

Good for ND if they want to remain indy.

The other item is that the AD (ex NBC guy cough cough) can't say anything else besides that right now, regardless.

ND has a brand strong enough to end up somewhere if there is another cfb cataclysmic event.

What would worry me is: 1) Freeman is going to keep being sought after and the numbers are going to keep climbing and 2) Coach Cig is the best coach in the country and he is right in ND's back yard.

ND being mad at the ACC is like being mad at a co-worker that got a raise over you instead of being mad at the boss and the CEO (SEC and ESPN). They are looking to take their frustration out on someone, and they can't do anything to SEC and ESPN, so they will try and take those frustrations out on the only thing they can possibly hurt, which is the ACC.

I hope they magically end up 13th them

There are two paths in to the playoffs. One is through a conference auto bid. The other is an at large. By not joining any conference, they are giving up one of those options. So ND is dumb for not joining a conference. They could certainly make an agreement with one of the P4 to fully join and figure out how to keep/split their TV money with NBC. But they want it all.

THIS.
Notre Lame is BIG MAD that the ACC - of whom they are NOT A MEMBER -

didn't go to bat for them?
And instead went to bat for an actual member program?

LOLz!!

So, IF the ACC had indeed gone to bat for them, and they got in -
would they have shared any of the revenue?

< crickets >

You guys understand that the value to the ACC if ND joined would be to have them as part of their media deal, right? You can’t let them keep their NBC deal. That’s the whole point.

Home games and road games are different, right?

Oh no. What if ND was not in the ACC for football?? That would be terrible!

ACC should hold a joint press conf and throw all their teams out of the conference. Let them go be an equal member and get beaten into obscurity every season in the BIG or SEC.

Perhaps this starts the nuclear event that disrupts College Football and Syracuse somehow comes out better than it started.

I get why they are mad and I get the ACC being deferential to full members

money has distorted manners anyway so these flare ups will continue.

Imagine if the playoff things had done it right and just said the big 4 conf and then the G5 winner. Then the G5 winner could do a play in game if they wanted this week. Jyst like BBall does

Or you get creative and dont cut it off at 12, Just decide how many teams are worthy above 12 and play them off this week. if you play it at a home field it wont need much advance notice. Who cares if 20-30K show up. its all about TV money.
