Notre Dame vs The World

The irony here is, there have been many times in history when ND (due to their TV draw) made BCS-level bowl games that any other team with a similar record would never sniff.

For example, in 1994, they went 6-4-1 in the regular season, and made the freaking Fiesta Bowl, where they got their asses handed to them by Rashaan Salaam and Colorado. We went 7-4 and didn't make a bowl game that same season.

Bama/Auburn is one of the fiercest rivalries in sports. I saw ND look like crap for most of the game against a 2 win bc team.
 
ND fans are funny. They think the B1G would take the ACC ND agreement because ND is a rating monster. Despite having every home game on network TV they were 15th this year in most watched teams, and they didn't beat out the ACC's top team. They only won their time slot once the entire year.
 
In a few days everything will calm down and it will be business as usual for ND and the ACC and everyone else.

After FSU got snubbed in 2023, didn't everyone completely freak out on their end? If I remember correctly, Governor DeSantis in his thigh-high boots proposed some type of legislation related to it. And then everyone forgot about it.

Im so tired of the holier than thou notre dame lovers who think they are entitled to a spot because they are the great nd. You lost head up to the team you were competing with for the final spot. Deal with it.

I’m convinced people associated with Notre Dame football think it’s 1960. They aren’t that important anymore.

It is absurd that they think Ohio State would be fine sharing with Rutgers while ND doesn't have to. Or Bama would be ok with it.

NBS values ND football at about $7.5M per game. So 2-3 ACC games would be about $15-22.5M. Yet at the same time people think (even folks in the media) losing ND would kill the ACC's revenue and cause a collapse?

ND will remain an “independent”. Even more so given the concession the CFP gave them starting next season. But it’s just so silly since they already are 75% an ACC member.

The ND AD is taking shots at the ACC because the Conference supported its football-member, Miami in the run-up to the College Football Playoffs. He has suggested that the relationship is perhaps irreparable.

What's the nicest way I can say this?

How about " ND!"

They are takers and users.

They have toyed with the ACC to advance their athletic program, while refusing to be a full-fledged partner.

They care about one thing and one thing only - their money. They have always been given the benefit of the doubt in the college football world. In this instance, the better team finally got the nod - and now ND wants to take its ball and run home. That the school has chosen not to participate in the Bowl Season is just another example of the selfish, self-centered approach it has taken over the last 35 years.

I know the ACC will try to repair the relationship. I'm sure it is to the Conference's financial benefit to do so.

But, as far as I am concerned - personally - I could not care less if ND were to go shop its Olympic sports programs to the next sucker.

Seeing ND fans claiming they are holding the ACC together and that if they leave others will too. Do they really not realize that teams have one foot out the door already? ND isn’t holding the ACC together any more than they did the Big East.

What will the ACC do without Notre Dame helping bolster its profile and financials? I feel like this could be another sign of the conference slowly losing its influence and prestige, especially when the next wave of conference realignment hits. The ACC needs to consistently compete at a high level year in and year out to maintain relevance, but having a program like Duke as the conference champion doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. If the league can’t sustain top-tier competition, it risks losing its power-conference status over time, which would have long-term implications for recruiting, television revenue, and national perception. In short, the ACC can’t afford to fall behind — it needs to stay competitive to remain a major player in college football.

This is also why I hope Syracuse can join the Big Ten in the next round of conference realignment and be part of the emerging “super leagues” of the SEC and BIG 10. To compete at that level, we’ll need to consistently make the playoffs, make noise on a national stage, and continue recruiting elite talent. Down the road, I want to see us going toe-to-toe with programs like Georgia and Alabama in the postseason. I believe it’s possible, but it will require doubling or even tripling our investment in both the football and basketball programs, proving that Syracuse can evolve and compete with the times.
