Notre Dame vs The World

The ACC could end up following a path similar to the Pac-12, with its major programs eventually leaving the conference — not as extreme as the Pac-12’s breakup, but we could see Miami, Clemson, FSU, North Carolina, and others jump to the emerging super leagues. In my view, this Notre Dame situation feels like the beginning of the end for the modern-day ACC — this is the nail in the coffin. If the conference can’t find a way to maintain its competitive relevance and retain its top programs, it risks a slow erosion of its power and prestige in college football. Need to start making more mine than the Big 2 conferences to keep up and stay alive. Generating more money should be priority number 1 for the conference.

I don't believe ND disassociating from the ACC would be the nail in the coffin. Neither would FSU and Clemson leaving. But UNC, and maybe UVa, leaving well might be.

Im so tired of the holier than thou notre dame lovers who think they are entitled to a spot because they are the great nd. You lost head up to the team you were competing with for the final spot. Deal with it.
Not really. Notre Dame was competing with Alabama for a spot. And to be honest, it really doesn't make sense that a three loss team, especially with one of those losses being against Florida State, would hop over Notre Dame for a playoff spot. I went to Syracuse, and I am a proud alumni, but all I see in this thread are a lot of jealous people of Notre Dame.

The bottom line is that Notre Dame is a much better university than Syracuse.

In case this article hasn't been posted. ND is sticking it to, among others, ESPN. Will they bolt the ACC relationship and go to one with the B1G to further stick it to ESPN?

If ND does "leave" or disassociate from the ACC, it is something they've long thought about and worked on. It wouldn't be just a spur of the moment reaction. They may have long been unhappy about any of a number of things, like not having more influence in the ACC, like being unhappy that the ACC isn't more successful both on the field and on the court and in the TV arena, and/or like thinking the future of top college sports is only with the SEC and B1G. If the B1G does change its position and allow a ND association (without full football membership), it could be because their Commissioner Tony Petitti was able to convince enough B1G members to do it. He MAY need to do this, make a big splash, to divert attention away from the way he handled (or mis-handled) the whole private equity investment issue by trying to push it through without the various university boards of trustees knowing about it or having any say in the matter. The stand taken by the Michigan and USC boards of trustees may have saved the other members from a big mistake.

For anyone not familiar with the B1G private equity issue, go read the last few pages of the Thread

Big Ten Discussing $2 Billion Private Capital Deal

Notre Dame last won a national title when the Berlin Wall was still up.

If they are so mad, go to the SEC or B1G tomorrow.

OR, go grab Coach Cig to get you over the hump if Freeman can't get you to where you need to be.

BTW, the guy that wrote this writes for "The Irish Tribune" on recruiting. Take a guess where his loyalty lies.

Have you been asleep the last 2 years? The beginning of the end has nothing to do with Notre Dame.

ND is crying in the wrong puddle…but the acc could have done a better job on that messaging. The target didn’t need to be ND…should have been bama
Can’t punish a team for Making the conference championship bama won the SEC in the regular season.

Idiotic take. How exactly does ND feed the ACC?

ND's home games are worth about $50M per year. So 2-3 ACC games are worth about $20M per year. That isn't enough to feed one ACC team let alone the entire conference.

The ACC pays ND for their non FB sports about $20M (way too much IMO, how did they get this deal?). That nets out the FB to 0.0 for the conference. So the real value add of the Notre Dame deal is the extra money that their non FB sports bring in. That can't be much. On a per school basis what are we talking about $100k a year here?

The only real worth that ND adds to a conference would be owning the TV rights to 11 of their FB games. An Indy ND needs a conference more than a conference needs a non FB member ND.

This is also why I hope Syracuse can join the Big Ten in the next round of conference realignment and be part of the emerging “super leagues” of the SEC and BIG 10. To compete at that level, we’ll need to consistently make the playoffs, make noise on a national stage, and continue recruiting elite talent. Down the road, I want to see us going toe-to-toe with programs like Georgia and Alabama in the postseason. I believe it’s possible, but it will require doubling or even tripling our investment in both the football and basketball programs, proving that Syracuse can evolve and compete with the times.

Syracuse is never getting a B10 invite. If and when the Acc implode (I do believe it will) SUs best shot is a B12 invite as their Commissioner desperately wants a NE wing/corridor for the conference.

we may not get a big 12 invite either when all is said and done.

never say never GIF

It’s not impossible for Syracuse to get a B10 invite if they start making the playoffs and start competing with top schools they have until 2030 and that is plenty of time.

No, but you can punish them for losing three games, one of them being against Florida State!

Eh they were “out” in all the rankings and got blown out In sec championship…that’s nds gripe
What rankings? The only ranking that really matters is the one that determines the playoff spots. So now a team gets punished for actually making the conference championship game, while teams that just sit at home get rewarded? That completely undermines the purpose of conference championships. I honestly don’t know what to tell you, man.

All of the cfp rankings…they were a paper tiger most of the year inc the championship
