Now that GMac is HC, what does next year's squad look like?

Yep - we have to level up here. Unless it’s Dalton Knecht out there need to aim higher where we look. I mean we have to be willing to look at a guy like Burries at Zona if he were to portal etc.

I would think he just goes to the NBA or if he thinks he can be like a top 5 pick next year, transfer to one of the other blue bloods. There's no way in hell we're getting someone like him to transfer here.

Edit: We may be able to get lucky and get a player that proves to be similar quality but I do not believe we will be in play for guys that are looking like top 10ish NBA picks.

Cuse was so underwhelming this past season. We had so many holes plus the culture was really bad. Gerry needs to blow everything up. That includes Kingz and White if we can find better talent.

I want to see 13 or 15 guys that play real defense, that dive for lose balls, that can give 40 hard minutes if asked to and are more than one dimensional on offense.

I’d imagine for the price, you’re not getting a better “talent” than White.

Regarding returning SU players, I would take White. Love his motor. He needs to be coached up and I think will be a lot better with the new staff guiding him.

Kingz always tried and was our best player. But he can’t handle the ball well enough to play shooting guard and is too small to rebound and play defense at small forward.

He would be a great sixth man type but I am sure he can get a guaranteed starting spot at the P5 level.

If he starts at SF, it is a bad sign. But I question how well we will cover our needs at other positions with $12 or $13 million.

A good center and PG are musts and will be expensive. Personally, I think we should make Doty the starting SF. Probably a little slow to play 2G I don’t want another season with a shooting guard who can’t shoot. Though I suspect Doty will shoot over 35% from 3 next year.

Freeman has enormous talent but his faults are also big and I am not sure they can be fixed. I hope we move on but Gerry knows a lot more about hoops than I do.

Think Moesch is the backup PG. I suspect G Mac will try and retain Fennell. We will see. I am sure the kid wants to go somewhere where he will play a lot.

Agree the 6’7 kid from Siena who hold his own with the Duke bigs and played quality defense should play for us. If the transfer era has taught us anything, it is that there are good players at different levels of college ball. My eyes tell me this kid would be an excellent backup PF for us.

Diawara (I think that is his name) should be a good backup center. Souare would also work.

We need Kingz and Freeman back - Freeman plays both ends of the court - don’t know where the criticism is coming from - we desperately need an upgrade at PG - George can make some nice lobs if your /C has a 42 inch vertical - outside of that he cannot penetrate and he’s physically week - we need a center obviously - we could use a SF that can get to the rim

All due respect to those guys, sincerely. His dudes played hard and clearly were coachable. Doty looks like he could contribute. If other guys are end of bench just in case, cool.

If Kiyan is going to play, he has to commit to getting his body right, playing any sort of defense and knowing what a pass is.

I’m fine if they want to let Donnie walk, but for all his faults he was efficient and produced. Jus need to fill that gap.

I would kill to have Sadiq back. I think GMac could mold him into an All ACC defender and he’d produce enough offensively.

I would love Kingz back but he has that odd connection with the previous staff (I think), so would guess he bounces regardless of if he gets the waiver.

George has to walk. He can’t beat his guy off the dribble. And for his money, not enough ROI.

I know a lot of guys didn’t reach their potential bc of coaching. Totally fair. I think Sadiq will make a monster jump under the right staff. I think Kiyan will get there eventually.

Given 12-13 mil is upper tier I expect we can do well with that. Doty needs to get stronger and more consistent from 3. Rather him focus on attacking the rim and the 3 ball vs the mid range. His improvement should dictate whether he starts IMO

Fennell is an unknown as to what happened last year. Was it injury, confidence or is the athleticism at this level too much? He has to be able to shoot and defend plus he’s a mid to low level athlete. Not sure whether he can hack it.

Kingz with a whole dedicated summer might be able to play the 2 if he improves his handle. Who we land at the point might dictate that we will who starts at the 3.

Something else here- if AW somehow gets back in the fold then you let him keep the NIL deal for Doty and then see if everyone can get on board with say you want a big time player and maybe need to over pay a little and AW can be that guy who you work with individually. That’s what he wants and loves because if floats with his way of doing business. Find a way to make it work and he doesn’t have to be pooled together with others everyone just has to get their role in all this.

Exactly why I think you need a stretch 4 or you add a 5 man like Veesar with a PG that is a knock down 3 pt shooter etc. In your case you need a unique stretch 5 if that was the lineup. I don’t think both will start.

I know a couple played OK in one half vs. Duke. That doesn’t mean they can hang against an 18 game ACC schedule and multiple good OOC opponents.

Gerry is the coach in large part because he’s the primary vehicle for a boatload of booster money. That money needs to buy us a great lineup. Not act as a jobs program for Siena players.
