Now that GMac is HC, what does next year's squad look like?

Here’s the formula for success, if you look at teams that were able to rebuild and make the tournament this year:

5 guys from other P5 programs that contributed at least significant minutes. All positions needed. You’re spending $6-$9 million here

2-3 guys from last year’s squad (Kiyan, Sadiq, maybe 1 more) $2m +/-

2-3 other guys including 1 or 2 from Siena and a late cycle true frosh pickup $1m

It will be very interesting to see how GMac develops the roster over the next month. Lots of work to do, but I think the media focus he’s received from the Duke game will allow him to attract some top tier guys (combined with a competitive NIL budget)

I think the issue is money. I'd certainly welcome Donnie back if he wants to stay and Gerry wants to retain him. But I'd be hesitant to pony up big bucks for him. I've never seen a star SU player check out like Donnie did in the last month of the season. It was embarrassing.

Do we know what he made last year?
ChatGPT said his NIL valuation is about $1 million, but I have no idea what he actually made.

To borrow from Michael Gary Scott:
You think Shaqs grow on trees? Well, they don't, there is no Shaq Tree. You think the world is crawling with David Robinsons? Show me that farm... with Olajuwons and Embiids... sprouting up all over the place, ripe for the plucking... show me that farm.
Not Shaq big but Arinze strong

I completely understand that Donnie was immature and checked out the final 10 games or so of the season, and I recognize that sometimes addition by subtraction has worked out well for us (e.g. Michael Lloyd, Deshaun Williams, Paul Harris, etc.). But we aren't Duke, and we can't just tap into our limitless options of incoming 5-star recruits.

Donnie is 6'11", has the wingspan of a pterodactyl, can lay the ball in from like 6 feet away, can rebound and block shots when he wants to, and can shoot the ball. IMO he's probably our most talented player this decade just ahead of Buddy, Judah and Jesse.

I really want him back. I get the sense that Donnie would benefit from a more intense personality like GMac than that librarian personality of Red's. If we utilize him correctly and design thoughtful offensive sets where he can be isolated on the low block instead of always floating around the perimeter, I really think he can shine next year if he comes back.
This is absolutely my take as well.

Sometimes kids are too nice to be great players and need somebody to push them. Red didn't seem to be that guy for Freeman.

"librarian personality" may be my favorite take on Autry.
And not the mean kind constantly shushing you... The kind that sits you in their lap and reads to you.

You lost me
You can literally ask it any question you want. We are taking a family trip to Italy in two days and my wife used it to plan the entire itinerary.

Clearly it makes mistakes sometimes…

The AI bubble will pop soon. Companies are already shutting down certain AI programs, biggest one being Sora, so no, I won’t be getting used to it.
LOL. That’s like someone in 1995 saying the internet won’t stick.
