Now that GMac is HC, what does next year's squad look like?

Huh? Does the transfer portal not exist? We're not in a time where we'll have year over year continuity ever again, eligibility doesn't matter.

You need to put the best team you can compile on the floor every season.

If 5 for 5 with a one time get out of jail card happens the portal in theory will not be the current s - show. Question is would the powers that be make the transfer part retro-active .

I disagree, I’m making a point that us uninformed fans aren’t the only ones who noticed we haven’t gotten the splash guys. Also the quote is “I’d like to see him make a splash with maybe 1 or 2 guys.” That doesn’t sound like a comment you make if you don’t think the roster is missing something. Devo has always been complimentary with most of his comments but he always injects the truth in his answers. He even did the pro-red rah rah but ALWAYS made sure to mention his true feelings around the team even if it was only in short bursts throughout interviews. I think this is one of those moments.
you keep leaving out the word but. he also admited to not knowing anything about the international players. he did not make a big deal out of a splash recruit.

Sure would make both players and programs more selective in utilizing the transfer portal It should also help lower the NIL necessary to raise each year and promote more continuity and development within programs.

Why would it lower the NIL necessary? It just means the top teams could make godfather offers to the best players instead.

Situationally sure. Like a Freeman, used his card and got a payday. if he gets hurt, again, and wants to come back, Ricky can tell him he'd get him in the league but his pay will lessen.

It's about getting a guy with tournament experience that played at a high major (or a big east level program) and was a consistent player. Tobiason is closest to that for us.

But I would've liked us to be on the right side of the Quincy Guerrier/Kadary Richmond/Donnie Freeman transfers rather than losing guys like that all the time.

If Donnie wasn’t hurt for almost half of both seasons he played here I would have been livid if we let him off campus. Love the kid and him committing to coming back but we can’t spend 3 plus mil for a kid who might not ever be able to do what he did in the very few games he was 100 pct healthy. John’s and Pitino can take that risk. Plus Pitino can just hang em up if say Donnie gets hurt again and they suck or don’t meet expectations.

St John’s also was irrelevant for two decades alongside the Knicks being a disappointment besides a few years with Melo. It’s NYC- Whether they fall again or not some billionaire will always be around to try and pay for a coach and players to win for a little bit again.

I left it out because he used buts all the time to work out of his criticisms of red, doesn’t mean we ignored what came before it

Soooo, this roster is basically built, right?

Dual
Tobiason
Doty
Anthony
Moesch

MMM
Goodrick
White

Wilson
Siby

Just going to add a couple more deep bench pieces?
Yeah looks fine to me. I don’t expect us to be national title contenders on paper in year 1. No one is.

Why? I don’t understand that statement. Won’t kids still portal? To me, there needs to be an eligibility and progress towards a degree component. When I went to school, the college to which you were transferring had limits (both grades achieved and number) on credits they would accept. Usually, about 2 years worth. Unsure how seniors can transfer and remain on track to graduate. Then, punish schools who don’t graduate players. Bring in a 4th year senior who loses credits and can’t graduate in 5 years, lose a scholarship for 5 years.

I believe he’s saying you get one time to portal in that 5 year period.

But restricting player movement while coaches have free reign to do whatever they want makes no sense, except in a system trying to limit athlete power.

Doesn't feel like a tournament team. I sincerely hope we surprise, but I just don't see where the offense is coming from.
Tobiason, M3, Kiyan are all offense first. Wilson and Doty are 2 way guys. Dual defense and facilitator. White can be a two way player as we have seen in flashes. Not going to have likely anyone over 14 a game so I guess in that respect it’s a worry. Maybe it will be boring Tony Bennett basketball?

Low turnover, high efficiency and solid rebounding the ball isn’t enough to win a title or a P5 conference but it can win a lot of games. We need to win a lot of games and make the tournament. We will have guys who play above the rim so it’s not likely all boring.

Or who knows maybe we just suck and half the board is right in feeling it’s a massive failure or whatever. Some days there is more joy at a funeral home than around here.

The are pushing for one free portal year only. After that you’ll need to sit.

We are attempting to bring 2000s Big East Basketball to the ACC is what I’m thinking is going to happen and GMAC doesn’t really give a crap if the rest of the conference doesn’t like it.

Buyouts still need to occur. We don’t get that with players. What’s happening now is ridiculous and I’m very pro NIL. The constant transferring is ludicrous.

Try looking at it this way. I was here as a freshman in 02-03 the year we won it and saw us be what we were as a fan before that and after and hate the misery of irrelevance and apathy as much as anyone. Yet here we are and it’s effectively last call at our favorite bar that might close or might not. We can enjoy the ride hoping it doesn’t until we know one way or the other.

If this crashes and burns then there is no lack of joy in appreciating being part of the prime while accepting what we’ve already been conditioned to for the past 5 yrs. Plus hey if it goes sour then the fanatics save some money every winter.
