Actually wouldn't surprise me if Gmac looks at a kid like Fennell who can shoot and has size and good basic skills as someone who could develope.
You aren't going to see a player like George who is too out of control suddenly become a great point guard or shooter. Not worth keeping around.

After doing some research, I'm more convinced that we can keep Betsey, which would be a good thing for us. G-Mac was his primary recruiter in HS. Given that and the fact that Betsey probably wouldn't cost a whole lot next season, I find it hard to believe he would let a 6'8" forward who shot over 40% from 3 last season walk out the door.

Gerry’s teams were very fundamentally sound at Siena. I expect the same here where he’ll target kids with high basketball IQ. Who are fundamentally sound players with good athleticism. If we get those 6, obviously we need a good lead guard and we need a good center. Lots of holes to fill with the portal. Luckily in this era of college sports we can be a tourney team next year if we spend the money. We’ll see how much money we put up

We cannot have three Siena guys in our regular rotation (not sure if you are saying that or just saying some of them would just be on the roster, which is fine).

Even if Kingz got a waiver, I didn't think he'd stay. If he actually would, that would be great.

We need a lead guard that is imposing and can assert his will. I'm sure Moesch is good. But he's tiny. And he's not tiny, but a top 10 player in his class.

One issue that GMac could have starting out is that Kline and Eugene were able to spend all of the previous season evaluating players across the college basketball landscape, using analytics and an algorithm they created, to find some diamonds in the rough, including Kyle and Kingz, and evaluate PGs. I assume Kline did the same this year, but he’s now been fired, so any work they did it for naught. The GM hire is gonna be key.

Wouldn’t SU own any data/reports he composed while he was an employee? If not, couldn’t we just buy his data? Does he have another, competing position?

I have no idea how well gerry will recruit as a HC for us, but step 1 is basically complete in getting him sufficient NIL.

We will see in his press conferences and media appearances on his approach to the game (though I'm sure he will never tell the secret sauce to his approach), but something tells me that GMAC way is going to be getting guys that embody the way he played the game and try to gain a competitive advantage with good fundamentals, relentless effort, and a scouting operation to neutralize the analytic and algorithm based programs. I'm sure they will still embrace analytics to help with player shot selection and to design schemes. But I'd expect the GMAC way will be a hunters approach to the games vs being hunted. To be a good basketball program, you either need to be good at being the hunter (outscouting your opponents and responding to the hunted teams adjustments) or respond well as being the hunted (having good systems that establish the conditions to the game and the ability to adjust when your opponent has figured out what you are trying to do). What's going to be fun is when we run into programs that are built on the same concepts of what I think GMAC will bring here 'hunter' mentality and that's when we will start to experience the old Big East rock fights we used too be apart of. You saw Autry try to modernize Syracuse, I think you see GMAC try to modernize the Boeheim way.

A backcourt that does not have any glaring weaknesses goes a long ways. Just 1 weak link in the backcourt or a combo that makes no sense is enough to derail a season. Just look at what we ran the last 5 years, I'm not going to dig into the efficiencies or rather inefficiencies but it's not difficult for any opposing coach with half a brain to pick our backcourts apart.

Get 2 elite Guards you can rely on for 35 mins mins a game that actually can work together and grind. Keep Doty to be a 6th man and no offense to Kiyan but if he stays he needs to be buried on the bench until he earns his spurs.

it's amazing to me how many people think that would be the roster. he said in the interview today he's bringing in 1-2 high school kids (not many left and red brought in 0) and some portal guys (didn't mention a number).

Me too! Is our goal to be 18-14? I remember thinking that Jaquan, Jyare, and Lucas Taylor would be quite good additions to the team. They weren't good enough to help us win ACC games. Let's get some power 5 starters with our supposed improved NIL fund.

Moesch had 24 scholarship offers but shut his recruiting down early when he committed to Gerry in September and then signed in the early signing period. His final 2 were Providence and Siena. He signed with Siena two days after his visit to Providence.
Like Doty, he was scouted when he was quite young in his career as a freshman at Chitt. He was kind of under the radar until he went to prep school in his junior year. Gerry got very close with his family.

Other offers at that time from: Creighton, Seton Hall, Iowa, Akron, Richmond, Lemoyne (his very first offer), LaSalle, Duquesne, George Mason, Rhode Island, Iona, Colgate, Fordham, Marist, Manhattan.

I don't know what the going NIL rate is for highly ranked or even mid ranked Freshman. He was supposedly getting 200K from AW to go to Siena.
