Now that GMac is HC, what does next year's squad look like?

went from -.4 freshman year to 1.7 this year. 1.7 isnt horrible. although i never put any weight on dbpm. obpm is fine. but dbpm is no measure of a defender.

Yeah Evan Miya had him -.19 to positive .43 which is pretty poor. Georgia as a whole
Per Ken Pom was only a few spots better than us adjD rankings. Not sure if he had to defend SGs all year though either ..

He’s gotta drop down. You can’t play anything but a zone with him. Maybe after a few years playing he can come back up but right now he just needs playing time.

I understand and respect the metrics, and think they're very useful. But just flat out saying no to a guy because his metrics say he's a bad defender is a little over the top. Guys get better all the time. A year older, new system, new coaches.

William Kyle was the worst rated player on UCLA last year with a .21 DBPR. He improved that to 1.79 this year. Plenty of other examples

In this fictional scenario….
Betsy wants to stay at Cuse. Loves the school, campus has a girl friend here etc.

GMac doesn’t see Betsy as a good fit.

Does Betsy have a choice to stay, or would his scholarship get revoked? Are there scholarships anymore if they are getting paid?

Or does everyone just sign one-year deals ( or I hear Kiyan signed a two-year ) and then go on the open market?
If a player wants to stay, especially with a new coach coming in, can they?

My hunch is that SU would not be in the business of literally pulling someone's scholarship.

What's most likely is that Gerry would tell the player that he doesn't have a role on the team, will not be on the team, thus will not receive any direct compensation from SU, and is welcome to stay enrolled at SU if he'd like to remain a student.

No athlete is going to take a coach up on that offer, so he'd leave.

Freeman and George will likely be headed elsewhere.

Have heard nothing on Fennell or Souare or Diawara. Guessing they aren't likely to hang around just like Womack.

Here’s my guesses:
Anthony and Doty - Given the unofficial rumblings, sure.

Folefac - Given the unofficial rumblings, sounds very possible.

Moesch - if he likes Gerry and GMAC likes him that much and if there is a possibly of playing time?, maybe yes but could have options.

White - we want him but he could go anywhere. Friendship with mentor Melo may be enough for him to stay. Relationship with Kiyan, may not be enough to convince him to stay

Betsey - if he wants to, he can stay but as with all decisions, it will GMac who decides.

Kingz - working with the NCAA is a drawn out process unless the NCAA wants something done. May be a while before a decision is made, might be more prudent for Kingz to look at overseas opportunities for guaranteed pay day.

Freeman - we would take him back but not at $3 Million (maybe 1). There has to be new understandings and agreements in place. He needs to be an inside force both defensively and offensively. He was close to Autry and Coach B.

George - really tough one, Not worth what he was paid last year and if what he showed last year is his best, may be there needs to be a parting of ways. GMAC has a tough decision to make here.

Souare is a package deal with George (or at least was). Big body (warm) who has some defensive skills but little offensive. Would let him go with George.

Fennell - basically unknown. Not sure of his options. If GMac wants him, he could stay but would like a defined playing role on the team.

Diawara- can’t teach size. Saw him at last years Peach Jam after he was on paper commit to Syracuse. Was very limited there. Smaller players (much smaller) out played him Is he more than a cat ladder/retriever? Can’t tell yet. If GMac keeps one player based on potential, he could be Diawara.

And so much for my predictions, it will all be up to GMAC.
