Now that GMac is HC, what does next year's squad look like?

Gm as job is to win. Not give out charity for roster soots.

We can’t win relying on Siena’s players as starters. Devo wasn’t wrong. Maybe Doty can be rotation.

He has to get the best guys he can and get wins.

The issue at hand is how do you find 5 starters for less than 9-10 million so you can then fill out the rest of the roster and ensure that those starters are all better than Doty?

Personally I think you build the roster to be basically 7 starters and let the players figure it out, Doty included as to who earns it ( this finding some guys in the 1 mil range to compete with Doty and returning). If we are really talking about hands down making sure we bring in a starting 5 that is absolutely 5 guys better than anyone returning or Doty we are likely going to need to be in that 15 million spot. Unless a possible euro player would cost less should we find a starter. If we hands down were sitting on that 15 million level number I’d say hands down let’s do it but the numbers game makes it hard to see how Doty starting is not a possibility. That of course is based on the numbers being thrown around via the agent stuff they pass around twitter. If those are way high and we could accomplish that with 13 million and have depth then yes please.

Basically - I’m with you I just wonder how big of a budget do we need to accomplish that…

We were told that raising money was one of the reasons GMac was hired. So, I hope they knew to expect and pay for a whole new roster.

As long as we’ve got that kind of money then yes build a damn top 10 team on paper and 5 guys every single other program wants as well. As long as everyone of them is willing to work and win.

That said names and rankings mean nothing if they aren’t going to play hard and willing to be coached. All of this will be easier to sort through and analyze as things get rolling next week.

That sounds great and all but you need players who are gonna be winners and work. Look what we did this year. We paid stupid amount for what we thought would be a top pg and the kid had no fire or desire to win. It’s more than just about money.

We need players who can shoot the ball and have skill. Most players have "fire" and want to win. They wouldn't be D1 athletes otherwise.

100%. And I wasn't being sarcastic. We were literally told that we should expect this, and that the money is there.

Skilled, coachable and want to be here besides just for a paycheck. George as an example crossed off one of those.

I think fans are overestimating what players are getting paid. Most starters are not getting paid a million dollars. I think people would be surprised what players are ACTUALLY getting paid. You can get very good players in the $600,000-$800,000 range. The very top of the line players maybe getting $2 million. The only numbers we are hearing are coming from agents. They are just pimping their players. One of the very best players potentially in the portal will be Bigunda from Kansas. The number floated around by his agent is $5 million, but everyone else is saying he might get $2.5 million. He's first team Big 12 and defensive player of the year. He will be pursued by all the big time programs.

I dont care if they just want to be here if they are 1st round draft talent. Now, crappy players like NAIT that just want to be here for the check, you should stay away from. But if we have first-round NBA talent that wants to come for a check and ball out, I am all for it. We need NBA talent PERIOD.

Assuming the comment from BH about every agent he has spoken to has demanded 1 million or more is hyperbole then?

The ball out part comes with what my point was… you gotta buy in if you are going to “ball out”

I’m getting antsy. Can’t wait for Tuesday & the next couple of weeks.
I doubt it will be Tuesday except for any SIena player. Because that makes it appear as if there were conversations before they were allowed. I think Thursday is the earliest. But Tuesday for SU players and Siena players or any other player with a coaching change. They don't have to abide by the window. We still don't even have an official who is on staff. And you have to think that the staff and GM is advising on this. They have really locked up any leaks.

Let's talk about agents. I had a D1 coach tell me how these agents are ruining these kids. Promising them X amount of dollars and then taking anywhere from 15% to 40% from these young kids who have no experience or proper guidance.
Well remember the UNLV QB just before we played them who never got paid, and walked away. I think those contracts and the players/families have gotten a lot more savvy at having someone trusted along with the agent. Or maybe the agent is the trusted person. I am sure some are getting taken advantage of.

I believe professional agents get 3-4%. In college it’s usually 20%. No wonder agents want them school shopping every year.

Some players want to visit too. I like the portal being later in the spring. Weather is better in Syracuse.
