Now that GMac is HC, what does next year's squad look like?

It would be nice if most of you guy's would just let the coaching staff work this situation out,. Most of you that are making these predictions don't know beans about the game. Give the man some room and see what he can do. It will be hard enough to change this team overnight. I assume if most of you were good enough you would be on coaching staffs yourself. NUFF SAID !!!!!

The front court is very weak. Our centers are huge unknowns.

I like White but he needs to make a huge leap or else we are screwed at the 4.

PG needs another scorer/playmaker.

This team needs to win and get to the tournament. I maybe in the minority on this, but the goal every year is to make the final 4. Especially in the portal era. No time for improvements/development. As we have seen teams are about 80% turnover year to year.
I agree

No problem, we can all just stop posting until the portal's closed. See you soon.

There’s a reason I spoke broadly and not about Gerry’s roster construction in progress. You don’t need to preach patience to me.

Again, my sole point is that all the blue collar, work ethic, plays the game the right way stuff that a certain segment of fans gets verrrrrry excited about doesn’t win titles without great talent.

You know who knew that? Jim Boeheim.
I think some of these posters watch Hoosiers every day and then start posting.

Clemson is shooting for the moon compared to the program a lot of folks actually want us to model. ;)

Freeman( healthy and baggage free) ,Fielder or the euro equivalent is the most important next move to elevate this roster. That will significantly change the complexion.

Wilkens or someone like that St Thomas kid to round out the guard spots.

Tim contradicts himself by the end of this statement. They could be going all in, but also having standards of the type of player they are looking for and at times can be losing out to another program that has a better and more established business case for that player at this time. He talks about a "superstar", superstars aren't around in College Basketball every season. Even this past season, the only player that could remotely be arguable as a superstar was Cam Boozer. Superstar in College Basketball should be reserved for the Carmelo Anthony's and Anthony Davis's of the world. You don't need a superstar to hit big shots in clutch time and win in College Basketball. They are going all in on making sure they are getting this right and establishing an identity for this program. Like I'm not naive and saying everything is going to be great (we will see), but atleast research more and see that there is not a ton of supply of players that a program wants as fits that are on the same level and that programs that have shown the ability to develop and maximize talent of there players at the power conference level have somewhat of an advantage in recruiting in getting the best and furthest along of the fits.

Which 2?
Time context is important...at the time I wrote that I was thinking 2 out of Dual, Doty, and White were possible. An hour or so later Tobiason committed and likely took the spot I had in mind for Dual or Doty. At this point I gotta figure White, Tobiason and Siby. Still need a true PG to start and another starting forward big or small, (preferably 6'7" at least). It's not ideal but lots of teams have had success rolling out 3 and 4 guard lineups and I think we have a nice collection of 6'5" or so swingmen.

If you prefer to sit quietly and wait for the pre-season magazines to learn who will be on the roster you can still do that. How hard can it be to "change a team over night" when you are bringing in 10 new players out of 12? Did you expect this fan(atic) message board to be filled with a bunch of coaches?

It’s hard to keep up with everything; it does seem like the roster looks a little underwhelming based on the money figures that were being thrown around.

I’m trying to land somewhere between the people who are negative (based on the last few years it’s hard to blame them) and the people who seemingly have way too much confidence in Gerry to nail every move.

That’s where most of us reside even if there’s optimism presented. A good staff helps with cautious optimism for me. We have absolutely had a massive weakness there the last 3 years as a whole unit.

I think the foreigners will be the X-factors.

I do think there’s going to be some improvement attributable to having a more competent coaching staff in place. I guess what is yet to be decided is how much more competent it is.

The cynic in me thinks that by January of next year the goal posts will have moved from “easily making the tournament” to “well we knew the first year was more about building the culture”. But that is pretty cynical I do concede.

Strategy and effort can win 50/50 games. How many can we win facing a talent deficit will determine tourney or culture building label. Sort of excited to find out.

This looks like a solid team and conference winner if the team was Siena. But, I’m willing to trust the process and see how it all plays out. In Gerry we trust.

First the$$$ being thrown about SU are guesses. What SU had in total NIL is guess work except to a select few. Gerry said he wanted to bring positional size and that is true except For Moesch (sp)
Who will surprise a lot of people, he moves like a chipmunk. Anyway, I’ll wait and trust until I can’t. Out

There’s still lots of time left for the staff to put together a good roster and score a big time prospect or two. Virginia didn’t sign their best player, Tiis De Ridder, until June of last year. I’m really hoping we can get another top international prospect like De Ridder from the portal. I think 3M will be good but he’s young. De Ridder was clearly on another level as a potential 2nd round nba draft pick last year.
