Now that the Post Standard has published their story

*I think the guy is a hack but he is the same hack that 99% of Universities and Corporations have running them so can we stop being so shocked.
I might have believed 50% because, to be fair, I doubt you had enough time to investigate the other 50% of the "hacks running the Universities and Corporations"

I don't think people here are grasping that this guy is 68 and has been a career college Dean and then Chancellor for 25 years. His contract is up in 2026 and in my opinion is not well liked and is on his way out no matter what.

People act like because these guys have a huge title that they are different than any of us. He's just running out that clock same as we would and not rocking the boat. That means not answering Dasher's messages and for sure not meeting with AW, which would 100% get blasted all over social media somehow.

At 68, less than a year away from either retirement or taking some Board seat at some other company where he does nothing the rest of his life he literally does not have to do anything. If that means telling his admin assistant just to ignore certain topics like AW then it is what it is. Honestly I might do the same in that position.

I don't think anyone is "shocked" but they're just calling out the incompetence.

If what you say is true and Kent is retiring in a year and in "coast mode" and doing the bare minimum, I would argue the BOT is not doing their job by moving him out and moving on to someone more dynamic. With what's going on with student recruitment shortfalls in higher ed right now and coupled with the D1 NCAA revenue sports paradigm shifts, bare minimum doesn't come close to cutting it at the moment.

There is no reason SU or another school or business, etc. should be putting up with that. These chancellors or CEOs are paid handsomely to do their job in a rapidly changing environment.

Unless the influential alumni and/or the BOT calls for action, then nothing is going to happen. Especially at a private university.

Well, in his defense, at least he wasn't making out with the Head of Human Resources at a Cold Play concert. He has that going for him.

I get it.

"Cloistered" doesn't just apply to monasteries and convents.

I met Kent on a few occasions and found him always approachable and friendly. He oversaw three massive projects during his tenure. He completed the massive Dome renovation $7 million under budget and getting out of the naming fiasco with Carrier. Under his watch, the new Lally Football complex was completed. Miron Court was developed and finished. This is historic compared to other administrations. Massive amounts of property has been purchased with huge future ramifications. Name me one thing that Buzz Shaw did to enhance athletics at SU? The AW situation is small potatoes compared to the progress Kent has made. He’s not perfect, but don’t try and say he was a disaster.

On the other hand, and excuses have been made for this, we have dropped every year on U.S. News and world report in our ranking. Now, we can say all we want about that not meaning much, or the way that calculate that is unfair, but people do see that and make judgments about schools using that.

I guess we were better off when we have a chancellor that just said, “Get a life!” The BOT approves funding for all the colleges on campus, under the recommendation of the chancellor. I think the U.S. News and world report could be blamed on a lot of issues. The point is a lot of people are responsible for the running of a major University. I was focusing more on the athletic side. I would say Kent has supported athletics better than anyone since Mel, who helped get the Dome built and earlier the Manley original renovation. Nancy spent money like the University was printing it. I would assume the BOT wanted Kent to get the bottom line at the University under control. He’s directed by the BOT. I’m not privy to what the priorities are at the university, but Kent has helped to get SU athletics back to this century.

Exactly! Also At least we didn’t have a Penn State (Sandusky), Ohio State (Wrestler abuse), Michigan State (Gymnast abuse), UNC (Fake classes), Louisville (hookers) under his watch.

It’s a low bar these days.

The BOT would never tolerate that from someone!
