Now that we've landed Folefac, are there any guard prospects we are pursuing to finalize roster?

If the roster is set, from my perspective, GMAC has done well building it. After a horrible season, we did well being able to keep Sadiq and Kiyan. Coach brought with him players he knows and coached up which is a plus. The portal guys are solid college players.

Being who we are as a program the past several years, it was a long shot getting Estrella, Mingo, or any of the top portal guys or decommits. This season will be about GMAC’s ability to coach and keep his team motivated and engaged, win or lose. If he can do that, as many good coaches have done with average or nondescript teams, we will make the tournament and set ourselves up to be able to have a better chance when we go after the big name players next year.

The value proposition of having GMAC was to unlock the money to avoid punting on yet another season. Otherwise, there were several coaches out there with longer track records of success in both recruiting and developing players.

Hard to believe that this current group uses up the $12MM that people have estimated we have to spend.
Gotta believe that even the last player on scholarship (remember those? :))is going to get at least $100k.
There must be enough left for an eleventh hour signing.

They better not be. I’m ehhhhh on this current roster. I think it can surprise me. But I don’t think it’s leap and bounds better than what we had the last few years. I think defensively we will be MUCH improved. Length we have improved. I like the versatility. I think we are much more fundamentally sound and higher basketball IQ players. I think we lack a little athleticism at some spots and I’m worried more offensively. I don’t think we have a “go to” guy. And I really thought GMAC would be able to get a solid lead point guard. Which I guess he still could but he whiffed. Realllllly thought we were gonna get Wilkins and we had him and were about to wrap things up before UK up’ed their offer big time. This roster we have now, with Wilkins as the PG would be a really good team.
He said they weren’t done.

Is there even a PG out there still that would legitimately give Dual a run for the starter job? I'm not so sure Wilkins would've.

Get ready for Dual to play 40 min per game...I hope hes is good
What evidence is there that this could be a remote possibility? I only watched Dual play about 3 games but I didn't see a player suited to be the guy at the point for an entire game. McNeese St had 5 players average over 20 min per game and all 5 of them were guards and Dual only started half the games, at McNeese St. He may have been a primary ball handler but he had a lot of help. My eyes saw a prototypical combo guard not suited for 25 minutes per game as the point. He's a great defensive player. Dual will likely start alongside Tobiason, White and Wilson. I don't believe the 5th starter is on the roster yet and my preference would be a solid point guard though the team still needs more shooting also.

Transfer portal seems pretty picked over for point guards, but is there anyone we're targeting?

Any international prospects we might chase?

Feels like we are an experienced point guard prospect [preferably one who can shoot] away from this being a really deep, interesting roster.
You think we need one more?
You think we need one more.
All right, we’ll get one more.

He also said when discussing the 5 for 5, how he was hoping it wouldn’t be passed since they had spent most of their NIL.
What a scramble there will be if it passes. Budgets will be wrecked. But every school has its own Lobdells, Lallys, and Melos. Won’t they all just hit them up again? ‘We need another two mil, to get Player X-5. He’ll really push us to the next level. And if we don’t get him, the competition is getting a 5-5 guy so we won’t be as competitive and the money you already spent will be worth less.’

The NCAA is a fustercluck. It’s just dumb on top of stupid, with swirls of mysteridiocy.

Have heard they're only paying 10 players as primary guys.

If that's the case, I'm not sure if there are any of those spots left. Have to presume the Siena backup C is one that isn't 'paid'. Don't think Moesch is on same level as the other guys.

Seems like there's one more 'paid' position and one more 'developmental' add left.
If this is a 15M roster than the sport is well and truly broken

money was unlocked. we're near double what we had last year. we can't control what other teams can do nor can we control what the market is.

tobiason will be the go to guy. and he'll do very well imo. if you haven't already take a look at his so called NBA draft workout and the comments. he'll be fine.

I don't recall Carlos ever being looked at as a savior for the PG position. I remember many being a little apprehensive about him being added to the roster. However, then there were some reports that he was killing it in practice which raised expectations.

As for Hughes... I got excited about him because Boeheim kept hinting that he was going to be a really good player for us and this was before Boeheim just started saying things.

That all said, I agree that we don't really know much at this point. While I'm wishing for the best, I'm pretty underwhelmed.
Carlos was never billed as a difference maker for us. He was supposed to be the backup PG who could bring defense and some leadership. Then Red whiffed on his starting PG targets so we ended up with Carlos. It was like losing Kenny Anderson and settling for Michael Edwards.

Hughes was seen as a player with a high upside when he transferred here. You can look at the thread on this forum. And during his redshirt season, there was definitely buzz about his potential impact the following year.

That’s when players would improve during the year they had to sit out. Wes Johnson was wowing everyone during the year he sat out too.
