Now that we've landed Folefac, are there any guard prospects we are pursuing to finalize roster?

And I certainly hope he does because there isn't much left on the shelf to choose from in the portal. I think at this point, we have what we have. We will see but I'm concerned.
I am too, but that’s where good coaching comes in where you put enough guys on the floor (3 guard lineup) who are competent ball handlers. I doubt there’s an international savior coming.

After the last few years, I've kind of given up predicting how players will fare after they change teams/systems.

Go look at two threads to remind yourself: Jaquon Carlos and William Kyle... Carlos was supposed to be a game changer and the savior at PG. With William Kyle a lot of people didn't think he could start at center and was potentially a rotational PF.

Typically we're all wrong one way or another on transfers. I doubt anyone was super excited for Elijah Hughes' 7 ppg at East Carolina and I think people were high on Eddie Lampkin.

Long story short, who the hell knows.
That is a very fair post. Also, the reason I am not upset or thrilled with what we have. Because we really don't know what we have. I do think Gerry retained the two players with the highest potential, which is a good sign.

Positionless basketball is modern basketball. Based on the roster construction it certainly seems like Gerry is building this type of team.
duel and moesch are pgs. but to your point about positionless basketball, we can throw doty and tomiason into the mix at pg. i've heard or read more than 1 analyst talk about their abilities to initiate the offense. especially doty. not just as secondary ball handlers but as the initiator. like jb said, if the other team isn't applying heavy pressure, even paulie could bring the ball up. and any minutes that doty or tomiason can give us at "pg", allows us to get another 2/3 on the court at the wings. doty, tomiason, 3m and kiyan are all wings. to have 3 of them on the court at once for some number of minutes may not be a bad thing. and that's not a knock on duel who i think will be very good. just another option at Gerry's disposal.

How positionless were Michigan and UConn? Or Arizona? The sweet 16 was dominated by teams with low post centers and designated point guards. Positionless basketball may be great in the NBA but few college teams will win that way.

Everything goes in cycles. We aren’t far removed from Nova, Baylor, and UVA winning titles with no one taller than 6’9”. Even Florida last year was mostly perimeter oriented when they beat Houston who played the same way. Everyone’s overreacting to one year here.

Because that’s taking the term literally. There are obviously still post threats and centers etc. i believe Gerry wants multiple guys on the floor at the same time capable of distributing the ball. It’s more about spacing and exploiting matchups. Everyone clamors for less iso ball - well one way is not always having one primary point guard. Our offense has been stagnant for years.

I’m going to reserve my meltdowns for actual game threads to see if it’s the same or not.

Not allowed. You must meldtown right now today. Our roster does not look like Michigan's or UConn's therefore GMac has failed in the portal and now we are Siena.

This is truly the age of mystery GM™ where nonone knows anything but we’re concerned anyways
What do you want me to do? I am a Red Sox fan, if you think SU basketball sucked last year watch my baseball team, then you will know what sucks is.

So you’re essentially saying point guards less rather than position less? Isn’t that what we’ve been doing most of the last decade. Before George we really haven’t had a true point guard since naybe Ennis. People complained that guys like Girard didn’t have a “feel” for running an offense. After watching guys like Cadeau and Smith run efficient offenses, I’m kinda in the best point guard wins camp.

What I love about this post is twofold. We have no idea how much we started with and we have no idea what we paid each player. Yes I know there have been various rumors about both.
And we have no idea if we overpaid, because we don’t know what the market was for any player, other than maybe Freeman. By some accounts, we underpaid for Doty.

We also won't know how good/bad any of these players are until they step onto the court so even if we knew the number we *still* wouldn't know if we over/under paid.

Hughes was seen as a player with a high upside when he transferred here. You can look at the thread on this forum. And during his redshirt season, there was definitely buzz about his potential impact the following year.
I remember several Syracuse.com articles comparing him to Wes, and him and Southerland posting funny memes on Instagram about "Free Elijah." We definitely knew at the time he was a good one

GMAC’s roster makeup has some Clemson similarities. Good, solid players with no superstars.
White has NBA potential, Tomlison has NBA potential, according to media both Euros have NBA upside, Folefec has potential, Anthony we will see, Doty has 3 years left. I guess no 1st rounders right now but potential.

Your overall point I agree with and is right but I wouldn’t say Florida was perimeter oriented. They were just really well built and balanced. They started 6’11 and 6’9 along their back line who both averaged 10+p 6+R. The team was just elite everywhere. if leaning any way it was more on downhill pressure and using their physicality to overwhelm opponents attacking and in the paint.

They were the #1 offensive rebounding team in the country, top 30 in 2pt %, top 3 in 2pt fg’s, and top 20 in free throw % and attempts.
They were top 70 in 3pt %, made 10pt/g and top 160 in 3pt attempts.
