I'm surprised there is no thread for this. Mets will be the team to watch this offseason given they have more money coming off their cap than total salary of a several teams.

Initial thoughts:
- I'm conflicted about whether to give Soto a huge bag. He reminds me a lot of AROD... a mercenary guy. I also worry about how these decade long contracts will age. Having said all that, it's not my money so I think Cohen should offer him the bag.
- Alonso... keep but only if his contract is under $200mm. I don't think he will age well
- Of all their pitchers I would go after Manea and Severino.
- Hopefully Mets sign one of the a-list starting pitchers... they desperately need a true ace
- I think and hope Maton comes back at a more reasonable price
- Thank god Ottavino is finally out... great pitcher back in the day but he's scary now

David Samson predicted on his show today that Soto would be a Met. He wouldn’t be shocked if the Mets pick up three Boras clients - Soto, Pete, and one of the top end pitchers.

I hope the Mets get the Japanese pitcher who was just posted... if for no other reason that the Dodgers don't.

Mets seem to be linked with Crochet via trade and Buehler via FA on a prove it deal.

Get those two, Manea and the Japanese kid and sign some bullpen arms and some SP depth to go along with Peterson and the pitching staff is rebuilt.

I'm not sure what to make of the Soto sweepstakes... I think there's a price beyond which Stearns won't go and I'm fine with that.

I think spend the money on 4-5 guys and not one is the better way to go.
Agree. The Mets have too many holes that need to be filled to sign Soto.

The glut of infielders on the roster now needs to be addressed and some of the guys turned into players at other positions.

I expect at least one major trade and probably two or three.

I am hoping Manaea is re-signed. He seems like a great fit for this team.

So much talk about adding a 3B makes me think Vientos is getting moved to 2B or DH.

That seems to hint that Pete is not coming back. Would not be shocked if he does return but I don’t expect it.

Should be a wild off season.

My suspicion is that Samson based his projection the Mets would get Soto (and keep Pete) on the way Cohen has behaved in the past - but one of the reasons you hire a David Sterns is to bring fiscal responsibility, so that may temper what Cohen does. I’d rather see the team do what Sterns kept doing with the Brewers - find manageable cost players to add to areas of need.

Seeing Manaea linked to the Rangers.

At some point if the Mets want to get to the World Series they will need to beat the Dodgers… not sure the Brewers strategy gets them there. Dodgers have three mvp candidates and a great farm system. Ohtani and Betts did a lot of damage against the Mets along with a few others. Mets didn’t have the bats or arms to keep up.

I think Vientos could be moved to 1B if Alonso leaves. I would like to see McNeill traded to make room for some of the young talent. I also wouldn’t be upset if Baty was included in a trade package. I’m confident that the Mets are in good hands with Stearns. He seems to get a lot of value for the money spent.
