Pitt had three timeouts. SU couldn’t have taken a knee to end the half.
It made no sense for Fran to call a timeout on the prior possession when Pitt was on offense. We weren’t doing SQUAT on offense up until that point - 70 yards and he expected Rickie to go 80 yards in 40 seconds?Pitt had 2 TOs. A single run wouldn't have made a big difference.
They might have just to force the punt. Anything can happen. But why did we bother to stop them from running out the clock? If we do not use our timeouts, they run out the clock. The coaches just cannot accept that we do not have a QB that can drive the field reliably under any circumstance. Reality can set in any time now…I would argue Pitt would not have even stopped the clock if we ran the ball or took a knee. It's not like their offense were killing us in the first half. With around 35 seconds or so when we took possession they likely would have just let the clock run out (unless they had a plus return).
A few additional thoughts/questions as my son and I were at the game as well. First you could feel all the oxygen just leave the stadium after that first drive int. On TV did the replay show anything like he was hit while throwing or was it just a horrible throw? It just from our view looked like a horrible throw.
Second pretty sure Pitt was stacking the box and daring us to beat them in the air (knowing full well our QB situation was sub par). That said constantly running up the middle was mind boggling. Deslauriers continued to be a force over all on the field. Tremble made some nice plays as well.
Agreed. Made no sense for that time out being called. If we have Angeli sure. We don't. So both bad choices on the T/O and subsequent play selection. Honestly Fran has a headset. Just should have told Nixon to run the clock after the first down incompletion. They might have just to force the punt. Anything can happen. no WR is stepping up to make great receptions any more.

yeah, you don't say that after the fact. Where was the yelling after the first down pass? Or even the second? It's easy to yell after that disaster. Coaching is not letting it happen in the first place. On TV the camera was on HCFB right after the punt return TD. He was yelling into the headset: "Un-*&!ing -believable, run the ball" (or something to that effect). Guessing Nixon was on the other end.
I agree. And we didn't need to just take a knee. Run a running play and rush up to the line. And just wait there. Pitt wouldn't take a time out if they thought we were rushing in a play.I don't believe Pitt was going to stop the clock. Felt like they wanted to get to half like the rest of us. And their QB had just injured himself.
It was good, but not great. We went from Moss tweets to dropsI dunno that TD was a sweet catch. I dunno that it should have been needed but he flew to the ball like superman.
I agree and frankly I think PITT knew their O was struggling. They couldn't run the ball and their Frosh was putting up some dangerous throws too. I think they would have said let's go in and assess.I don't believe Pitt was going to stop the clock. Felt like they wanted to get to half like the rest of us. And their QB had just injured himself.
That’s an indictment of Fran. Honestly, the past couple weeks of him passive aggressively blaming his coordinators has been a terrible look.On TV the camera was on HCFB right after the punt return TD. Their qb just hurt his arm. I doubt they would have been unhappy taking the three pt lead and the half. One thing is for certain, what we did, didn't work.Pitt had 2 timeouts. Take 3 knees and 30 seconds elapses
Exactly or at least kick it out of bounds squib kick it or whatever. Just don’t do what you did!At least take the knee and force them to use the TOs
This is football 101 level stuff
