Things were sky high after the 10 win season. Everyone most especially me was 1000% percent behind Dino. i heard and truly believe that he was gone if the cards had fallen differently with a few jobs. He ending up staying and landing a great contract. At the time i dont think that anyone at SU involved in the contract thought that there was much of a chance that he would tank so the buyout wasnt looked at as a negative rather it was going to soften the blow if Dino took another job. Obviously things have not worked out as planned. 5 losing seasons, and a very poor finish this year isnt exactly what the school thought they were signing on for. So we are stuck with a guy that by all accounts is solid off the field pretty poor on it. Hopefully we catch a break next year and make a bowl. If so Dino would be retained and maybe he sticks for a renewal which would most assuradly have a different buy out structure. To me that is the best case scenario as Dino might have learned enough in the last few years to realize he needs to surround himself with better coaches that allow him to focus on the big picture and let them handle game planning and in game adjustments. If however Dino doesnt make a bowl next year or finish strong as i think he actually might be retained yet again with a five win season as long as we play well. But if he is fired i would not be surprised to see Coach White get the gig. Hes young, has NY roots, will be affordable and has done a good job to date. I can see this happening. If not i think that JW is going to go with a young gun. Someone with a ton of energy who is lighting it up at a lower level. I hope that he takes a swing at Joe M as i would imagine his buyout would be something we could handle and i bet we could get Joe in the 3 m range. For me this would be a homerun. Ill hope that Dino pulls it off but based on his history dont expect much more than 4 or 5 wins and too many blow outs.
