Since a lot of people are pointing to yards gained yesterday, let's look at where SU stands in offensive categories (out of 124 FBS teams):

102 in Points per Game- 21.3
82 in yards gained-1373
t45 in yards per game- 458
101 in passing yards per game- 192
20th in rushing yards per game-265

458 yards per game ties you for 45th place. That tells you all you need to know about offenses in college football these days. In the 90s, that probably put you near the top 10.

The total yards gained is misleading because of our early bye week.

At this point, only one stat matters. PPG. I could care less if our yards gained was closer to the 50's, if we don't start turning yards gained into points, we are headed nowhere. 21.3 is absolutely terrible especially since 2/3 games weren't even ACC opponents and when you combine the fact that MD has a terrible secondary. Really we had 3 gimme games to learn how to score points.

I'm glad this is starting to sink in, because for so long we had so many fans on board with trying to white knuckle wins with 20 points. Yardage wise, we are starting to catch up to the rest of college football. Hopefully the points come soon. I think our trend offensively though is in the right direction.

What is sinking in?

Nobody wanted to "white knuckle" wins. But you also have to recognize constraints and work around them, which is what the program has done. There has been incremental, but solid improvement, since Robinson.

That being said there has been a significant fall off in scoring since 2012.

We've played 3 games, while most teams have played four. That skews the "total" oriented statistics.

There was all kinds of chest thumping about it. It was northeastern football. It was the Syracuse way. It was real football, not video games. Yadda yadda yadda.

2012 is the outlier because it has been the same as 2009, 10 and 11. 2012 happened because Grobs offensive recruits became seniors.

I meant to take out all of the total stats for that reason, but I forgot the yards one.

Bingo.

SU's offense has been subpar compared to the rest of college football for a longgggg flippin' time.

2012 was the outlier.

There were also countless threads where people proudly proclaimed that they'd rather have a good D than a good O.

As if the two were mutually exclusive.

Those threads made my head hurt.

I didn't realize Smith, Gulley, Hickey, Trudo, Macky, Chibane, Wales and West were Robinson recruits.

Was it IN PART because of the seniors, only (edit one) two of which was on the roster when Robinson was the coach, sure, but it was also because:

The rest of the roster was vastly improved,

The run game finally got going,

There was a solid OL,

None of which had anything to do with Greg Robinson.

He's referring to Nassib / Lemon / Sales.

However, its pretty easy to make the case that Lemon was in actuality a Marrone recruit.

I know that.

Yeah, see, you remember.

where would we be if we average 29 points per game?

No those guys weren't. But it was Nassib, Lemon, Sales and also Pugh that made the offense go. Before they were seniors, the offense was nothing special. After they were gone, and most others were still here, the offense went back to nothing special.

There is no case. Lemon was a Robinson recruit.
