Does an extra man need to step on the midfield line or over it to be offsides? Thanks to whoever can clarify this for me.

Yup just on it as OE noted.
 
Exactly. Touching a line puts you offsides, in the crease, in the goalmouth, or OB. I think it also puts you "over and back".
 
i think kyle fetterly pointed out somewhat correctly yesterday during the broadcast that the officials are running up and down the field heads on a swivel doing their best. you're gonna miss a toe on the line or an offsides call occassionly. hated that the replay took a crucial goal off the board for us late on replay review but that's the new reality. i don't mind missed calls as much as i mind inconsistency. it's a tough assignment for sure.

We got called for the goal mouth violation.

We got away with two offsides that could have been flagged.
