I have no idea why the kid left. Kids leave schools all the time.

That's right.
But it's not that he left...it's HOW he left.

Even if you hate your coach and teammates and school (and I'm not suggesting he did) be a man and be straight up.
Tell them you intend to leave.
After all, the school did give you a scholarship and now has to fill the void you're leaving.
