Ohio State Football program to the ACC...for 2020

That was Freeney's team. I doubt that team goes .500 without him.
Actually P said this during the 2001 season when we lost to some power teams early but finished with win in Insight Bowl and ranked 14 in the country . Without googling I think 10-3 or so.
Yup lost the kickoff classic game by a fg to gt Lost at Tennessee and to that Miami team that might have been the greatest college team ever.

We did also have a pretty decent RB and excellent special teams that season and I think a WR that had a big impact in the NFL.

The Miami game may have been closer but the McKinley kid held Freeney so bad that the announcers talked about it. I have never seen something so blatantly not called all game. Yes ur gonna miss some but wth.

I guess you're referencing Tyree? Aside from one ridiculous cstch in the superbowl I think mostly contributed on special teams in the NFL, didn't he?

Overall our offense was pretty unremarkable that year. We gained fewer yards than we gave up. How many 10 win teams can say that?

That season was an incredible job by the coaching staff to retool the offense and work with what they had. Extreme ball security on O, and let Freeney and the D disrupt other teams’ offenses. Just a great season.

Kevin Warren destroyed his career as Big Ten commissioner.
College football being cancelled was the right decision but he didn’t he have his ducks lined up before pulling the cord. Now he has to deal with this stuff.
I disagree. Kevin Warren will be the NFL commissioner someday and people will say he cared for the players over profits when he quickly pulled the plug on a B1G season in a time of unknown safety.

Yes, Tyree mainly contributed on special teams in the NFL. But people forget - he did have a TD in the 4th quarter of that Super Bowl.

Between Tyree, Mungro, Morant, Kyle Johnson, and Chris Davis - we had 5 skill position guys on that team who played in the NFL. Plus burners like Maurice Jackson and Jamal Riddle.

Special teams, schmecial teams- he'll live forever in NFL annals because of the "Helmet Catch". So yeah, there's always that... ;)

And who did our opponents gameplan (mostly unsuccessfully) for that season? Freeney.

And yet the offense stunk. Goes to show how important qb is. Sacks and forced turnovers (Freeney and Freeney) saved that season.

If the season happens, I wonder if there are ramifications in recruiting by having played in 2020 vs not.

The mind of a 17 year old is a weird place. Wonder if recency bias helps the ACC/SEC/Big 12

This is interesting

Very interesting indeed , big 10 and pac 12 could’ve easily Allowed teams to continue to practice and have a more wait and see approach like the other conferences. There is alot at $take postponing football.

Yes...Yes...and a BIG YES!! When it comes to recruiting its 100% always about "recency bias". I have said that for years (I know many on this board will disagree). Old folks don't understand the mind of a teenager! Trying to sell a high school junior or senior on what Jim Brown or what McNabb did (using Syracuse as an example) is a waste of time it means nothing. They care about what happened last year and what they saw on ESPN last week or last month or a few months ago.

What you CAN sell them on is the ACC plays its game come hell or high water, pandemic or not. While that Big 10 school you are talking to, well you might lose a year and it will hurt your NFL draft status down the road. That's all it will take to convince kids in recruiting.

I hope the Big 10 and Pac 12 sit on their hands and don't reverse course, it will help SU in recruiting

You have nailed the teenage mind: it is all about right now. It sees ancient history as back in Junior High.

Remember when people would complain about football schedules and administrators would always explain that football games were scheduled years in advance and couldn't be changed whereas basketball games could be scheduled in the off-season with some phone calls? They sure seems to be able to redo football schedules on the fly these days.

It's been said that tradition to a teenager means they saw you on TV last year. It's like the guy who got a big hit in the World Series last year is a 'clutch hitter'.

That is the thing that I feel most posters forget. You are dealing with 17 year old kids. There is usually no logic or reason to their decision. They continue to go to the same schools no matter how deep the roster is at their position. They almost never seem to look at academics. The parents also seem to defer to the kids decision instead of making an informed pick. I believe Dino has mentioned this previously when he said parents defer to the players decision and not a family decision like the military.

I would think it does. My follow up would be, how does it impact the teams that don't do well? Does it help that they played or hurt that they looked bad?

I would say it gives teams a leg up on peer schools (Duke vs Oregon St, Syracuse vs Purdue, etc) ... but not much vs teams like Penn St or Ohio St
