Interesting to see posts here and on other boards starting to percolate with the possibility of Oklahoma going to the B1G. In this conference realignment stuff I am a total skeptic, but sometimes it can be true that where there’s smoke there’s fire. For myself I heard this possibility from a friend in Oklahoma who does have connects to OU Athletic Department. He doesn’t have specific info but said there is definitely some buzz going on about it. I do believe, its over-hyped bowl arrangement with the SEC aside, that the B12 remains the most vulnerable of the conferences (aside of course from the BE). Especially given Nebraska, the stability of the B1G and its network and not having to play second fiddle to UT, there is more than a little logic from OU’s perspective … and the B1G gets another huge school brand.
It will be interesting to see if anything further on this comes out after the upcoming B12 meetings.

What makes things even worse for the B12 is that they are transitioning commissioners. They were not prepared for the news of Oklahoma to the B1G and seem caught off guard. Funny that the B12 meetings went from one of expansion to one of survival.

Could be but the B1G won't take OSU as well. They've already got the bigger OSU and have no use for the other.

If OU can split from OSU then nothing stopping them from joining a much more stable, and much higher paying B1G.

Where there is smoke there is fire usually. OU would make a great complement to Nebraska with the B1G. I could see it.

Posted this from the link I have in another thread:

A source with direct knowledge of Oklahoma's situation told ESPN.com, "Splitting with Oklahoma State would be challenging politically and not necessarily desirable but not impossible if it meant protecting the long-term best interests of Oklahoma."

According to my sources, there is absolutely, positively a 100% chance that Oklahoma would consider talking about a move to the B1G. You can take that to the bank.

The B12 is a "wanna be" trying to sit at the big boy table and they are getting burnt. Great move by the B1G. And I heard that they are looking to move in conjunction with the P12 to pick apart the B12 and prevent an SEC alliance. So the P12 gets Texas, Tech, BYU, and CSU to complete its 16 teams and 2 team per state model. The B1G gets OU and KU, then waits for ND/ISU to get to 16. The SEC will be left having to take Okie St and Baylor. Which leaves the ACC who would take RU and UConn. That means the B12 left behinds (K St, TCU, WV) will need to join the BE to survive. Kinda ironic that WV fought so hard to leave but will end up right back in the BE.

Funny you mention this, as i too thought about this last year. There is a legit chance that Texas could say the with this and blow it all up again. Then WVa would have to grovel back to the BE at which point the BE should tell them to go pound sand and send them to CUSA

I don't understand the animosity toward WV. I wish like hell they were a better fit for the ACC academically, and made it in.

i don't neccessarily have any animosity towards them, if we never played them again, i wouldnt care either way. What i meant was that if I was in charge of the BE and WVa came groveling back, i would tell them to pound sand.

Rememer Oliver luck saying Navy and San Diego State was an upgrade? Yeah em

That's the thing about meaningful history - it's bigger than any one jackass. I still want to play WV, despite Luck. As opposed to Rutgers, where there is no history, and one jackass justified my utter contempt for their program.

Say what you want javadoc, but if this story about Oklahoma to the B1G has legs there is one way and ONLY one way for the Big 12 to remain at all relevant. Dodds needs to get Rutgers.

I have a friend from Syracuse (let's call him John) and he said OU to the B10 is a done deal.

i just did that survey last week, your getting slow in your old age

All those NYC eyeballs locked on the LHN, I like it.

OU to the B1G was probably a strategic leak by OU and UT who would like to pour some cold water on Big XII expansion talk. Neither wants to go to 12 and have to face each other a second time in a CCG costing one of them a lucrative post season spot. I really doubt the Big XII will expand until the playoff format expands to 6 or 8 teams.

Me too. I would love to continue our series with WVU. I understand the academic argument. Still, they seem like they would be a nice complement to the existing ACC, and their recent on-the-field successes would have to resonate with FSU and Clemson.

Besides, every group needs a dumb kid around...

why would the SEC take Baylor over WVU?

Greater penetration into Texas which helps with TV/Recruiting. A&M is pushing Baylor because of politics. It also makes it easier to create pods in the SEC with the 4 former B12 teams as a pod.

If they split, the Pac 12 would take Oklahoma State. There's a certain billionaire who will make sure Oklahoma State has a home. Then they can play bedlam each year as part of the B1G/Pac-12 regular season arrangement.

I also think this would be hilarious, so I hope the B1G goes after them.

I talked to my buddy who's worked in the Michigan athletic deparment since the mid 90's - Cortland St grad who flipped me tickets to watch McNabb/Konrad's total destruction of the Wolves in'98 - well he confirmed to me that the Big 10 is looking to bring in Oklahoma if they can't get Notre Dame.

Their ultimate scenario would be Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Texas.

Consider Oklahoma choice 1B right now which could become a reality as another way to force ND's hand.
...and no Notre Dame will never end up in the Big12. :rolling:

I can see that. That would be great. Plus it would help push ND to the ACC.

Speaking of Michigan, Brady Hoke said today that within 3 years the BE and ACC would no longer be.

Is he planning on eating them?

This talk is nuts.
