Class of 2026 OL Brayden Charney (FL) COMMITTED TO SYRACUSE (6/9/25)

Im not impressed with a kid commiting when we were his only P4 offer. CFB is 80% recruiting and yes the staff can identify talent but this gives me flashbacks to Dino.

A few for Fran isnt going to define a team. Dino's were more than 50% of the class.

I'm pretty sure the DT who just transferred to Texas, Fran flipped him from Kent St.

That is true but he did have others like Tennesee still trying to flip him as well at that time.

Haven’t you ever heard of a camp offer? We have kids like this every single year going back to before I was born that come out of camp visits that are identified in person and usually aren’t on the radar of other schools. If you don’t like this then better just hang it up.

You just can't make everyone happy.

Not Bill lol. But the staff does have confidence in their development. Especially with the OL, they want them taller than 6 foot 4. The only position on the OL they would consider going smaller, I think is at center. This already limits the pool that you have for recruiting that position. The highly recruited and rated OL that fits the measurables are probably the toughest and most expensive recruiting battles out there behind QB. We have an opportunity though with Pringle, Ferguson, and Rice who were formerly highly rated that if they develop and show out. We can be a serious contender to land highly recruited and rated lineman straight out of high school that fits the measurable the staff is looking for moving forward.
Thanks for the insight

I do think there is a middle ground between liking and not liking a recruiting pickup. But the option is there to not like the post for a reason.
The option would be not to post a like or dislike. By it’s nature, that’s neutral.

Nobody knows what this kid or any O line prospect will develop into. We have had both, highly rated recruits at O line that never see the field and under the radar types that turn into 3 year starters, we have also had plenty of kids like this that don't ever see the field that will transfer out after two years. With the portal it's not that big of a deal. This could be any of these type of situations or maybe a kid that we will have to fight to keep here after a 2-3 years in the program. You just never know but O line D line prospects like this will always be part of each class at Syracuse even with Fran.

Kind of like a draft and stash type

The portal is a great equalizer that never existed in the past to your point. You really lose nothing taking flyers on HS recruits at positions as hard to project and develop as OL is.

100% it's worth the flyer to see where the kid is at in 1-2 years. You can't argue with the measurables
