He did play on the IMG “B” squad last year. It’s not like IMG is hiding talent. Think this is someone we could have got down the road if need be.

Agreed. doesn’t make a ton of sense but whatever.

Really early offers on guys we scouted that have full NFL size and great attitudes isn't a flaw, it's a feature.

Think back to not very long ago, when we were recruiting tall skinny kids to play offensive line, and hoping we could get them to 300lbs by their junior year, if ever.

We have grown entitled as a fan base, and it only took Fran Brown one season. Amazing turn of events.

I don't get it... such strong opinions for a kid with real size and a good connection to the area. Is he a current four-star recruit? No. But why the pessimism here? He has a good frame, plays at IMG, visited some big-time schools and we get the chance to mold him. If it doesn't work out so be it. But I don't see how this is a bad take in any way.

Reminds me of the St Aquinas OL that had measurable’s but were mostly DII recruits that never ended playing.

There is a big difference between being a junior on IMG’s A squad and B squad. Could have got him whenever we wanted imo.

The point about his visits didn't mean much. I could visit any school I wanted, it doesn't mean I'm good at football.

I just have a tendency to trust Fran Brown until he lets me down. Especially with recruiting.

We will need guys to fill out the roster. Most likely developmental kids. I doubt he will be squeezing out any 4-5 star kids for a spot. 85-105 roster spots will be borderline walk-on's is my guess.

I saw it said previously, but NIL funding for a scholarship to a loaded family could be appealing and useful.

Let's say you offer a kid a $80K scholarship (tuition, room, board).

Family says, "OK, I would have gotten $35K academic plus scholarships, this is really a $55K scholarship. We'll donate $20K per year to the NIL fund."

Why wouldn't this be something that is worked out down the line? Since there are roster limits, why not offer the final 10 of the 105 maximum to low D1-D2 kids with means, have the parents supplement NIL funding at $20K per year ($200K in total), give the kid significant discount to go to SU and have a good experience.

Who says no? $200K/year could help a lot, no? And if you really want to circumvent things, why not offer the full 20 extra above the 85 scholarship limit you're used to to those types of kids? $20Kx20 = $400K/year. And in certain situations, you might be able to do even more (i.e. - kid wasn't getting much academically).
