Olander calls out UConn fans

It's a one year ban - that could still be overturned.

We have one recruit for 2012-2013, Omar Calhoun 4 star, and he's said he's still on board.

It was going to be a small class anyways and could very well be a 1 kid class, pending departures by Lamb and Drummond.

Point is, nobody knows how Ollie will be if he's the head coach. Likewise, nobody knows how Hopkins will be. You will have a bigger TV contract, but christ, some of you guys act as if we're coming off 10 straight losing seasons and getting a death penalty for a 5 year post season ban while being demoted to the Patriot League.
There is little to no chance it gets overturned

DId you see what Calhoun's dad said after this whole APR thing? It sounds 50/50 to me that Omar ever sets foot in Storrs. He specifically said they were worried about JC's health and the post season ban.

And I was saying future recruiting. Most kids come to UConn for Calhoun. Hopkins on the other hand is a proven recruiting stud so I don't think losingJB will kill us as much in recruiting as losing Calhoun will hurt you.

The postseason ban also opens the window for kids to transfer without sitting out a year. Tell me that AO wouldn't like a fresh start, especially after Calhoun sent his boy JCMD packing...

UConn has appealed the decision and when the APR committee meets again there is a chance they could use the most up to grades in order to over turn our 2013 ban. Nobody knows how likely that would be.

I think they are just doing their due diligence in regards to Omar Calhoun. Who knows, high school kids change their mind and this is a very fluent situation.

That's really unfair. You can't say most kids come to UConn for Calhoun and then not say the same thing for Syracuse, come on. Kids are going because of Hopkins? Not a Hall of Fame Coach like Boeheim? As far as Ollie goes - I don't know who he was the lead recruiter on - but since he's been on board we've landed Drummond #2, DeAndre Daniels (top 10 rivals) and Omar Calhoun (top 40 scout). Say what you want about his minimal coaching experience, but I think he relates well to the kids and they probably find it cool to play for a UConn guy that was just in the NBA and played with guys like Kevin Durant.

JCMD wanted to transfer to be 'the-man'. If Alex wants any shot of the NBA, he isn't going to leave the BE and go play in CAA.

There is a decent chance it does get overturned, but there is also a better chance 2/20 comes about and the NCAA decides to use the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 data, in which case it doesn't have to be overturned.

I know as many Cuse fans that don't want Hopkins, I would bet. Don't kid yourself, most kids come to Cuse for Boeheim as much as they come to UConn for Calhoun.

Ollie recruited and landed DeAndre Daniels, Ryan Boatright, Andre Drummond and Omar Calhoun. He has really solid ins with AAU programs in the NE area and Cal area. I think he's off to a great start on that front.

The postseason ban may open it up for AO to transfer, which is ironic considering he is the only player left that was on any team with a bad APR (though not his fault). I would doubt AO transfers, if he was going to, it was when JCM left (there is a chance he tries to leave early to the NBA, according to some knuckleheads).

Finally, assuming Ollie takes over:

"Blaney pointed out (Ray) Allen's high praise for Ollie.

'He really went on a lot of different areas: the players on the Celtics team, a lot about Kevin (Ollie), what Kevin meant to him as a player – how Kevin drove him to be better than he was, that Kevin’s work ethic and his ability to make me work harder was something that is still ingrained in me today. To me, that was a great tribute to Kevin.”

And the fact that Allen decided to make the trip to Storrs at all was "a tribute to Jim (Calhoun) and how he’s built this program, and the kind of players that he’s had in this program that still want to give back.'"

This won't go away as long as someone like Ollie is at the helm (or whoever Calhoun endorses), and that helps recruiting a ton. Having random NBA players playing pickup games in the summer and HOF's like Ray Allen stopping by. Soon it will be a few of the guys Ollie has coached coming back in Kemba/Drummond/Lamb/etc.

uconn is no different than any other successful program that faces adversity. we go 18-14 they'll close off the 300 sections and there will be promotions linking SU hoops to the Syracuse Crunch.

What a tool...that program is a complete disaster.

A disaster with 3 national championships in the past 15 years, what do you think would happen if JB went down mid season? UCONN will hire a great coach if the next guy doesn't pan out when Calhoun actually retires...hell they may not be toast this season. You can't argue with the success. Sure they won't be in the toruney next year but this type of meltdown is nothing we as Syracuse fans have not seen before... I think people have short memories. I get it we hate UCONN but you certainly can't compare resumes the past 15 years because the score is 3-1. Until then, people should maybe just limit the smack talk.

Remember truly great programs when it comes to college basketball are judged by tournament performance and banners/ national championships, otherwise well you are just Pitt.

If Hop struggles for a year or two which he may people will want him on the next flight back to Orange County. Calhoun and JB are once in a lifetime type coaches

I get it I was just referring to how now their program is a disaster. It has no relevance of what they did last season. I wasnt flaming on them I was just pointing out that RIGHT NOW their program is in a free fall. Coach possibly never coaching again, not tourney next season, underachieving this season, players possibly leaving if they do get a postseason ban next year. That was all I was saying. To me that is a disaster. :noidea:

Well lets see how they finish...

I'm only one person but i haven't heard anyone who's hesitant to hire Hopkins.

It sounds like you would enjoy that.

I know a few, not a lot but a few. Fans not anyone of importance. They have other preferences as to who they think should take over and have major hangups with his coaching experience.

I should say, I think these people are morons for a number of reasons (one of which is their stance on Hopkins).

JB might be a factor but EVERY big time recruit mentions Hopkins in the interviews. Even Noel said he liked his relationship with Hopkins. I don't think we'll take a hit from the recruiting perspective at all. Game coaching remains to be seen.

do they have an extra chromosome?

I don't disagree with all of what you said, but for pete's sake there is only one AO, and he didn't play for UConn. Lil' respect, please.

I prefer to call him Alex Teriyaki

I think we're now working on 5 or 6 times that the Uconn program has been written off as "dying." The most recent one was 2010 - NCAA investigation, Calhoun's health/pending retirement, Dyson/Robinson/Edwards graduating, Kemba's not that good, very average recruiting class (who the heck is Jeremy Lamb?), Brandon Knight/Cory Joseph/Josh Selby/Doron Lamb all turned them down, they can't get big name recruits anymore, etc, etc, etc.

Do a search of rival teams' message boards in 2010 and you're see plenty of threads just like this one. It all comes down to the next hire. If the worst case scenario plays out, 2013 may end up being a complete throwaway year. But it wouldn't be anything that a couple great recruiting classes couldn't fix.
