Stop going 4 WRs or empty 5WR early in games.
We need to play some 11 and 12 personnel.
11 personnel 1 TE/1 RB
12 personnel. 2 TE/ 1 RB

It will help the OL get some help and should help the running game.
Watching the NC State game again we played to many plays with 4 WRs and it puts the OL into siuatuons our opponents are blitzing and Devito isn’t handling pressure well.

We need to help this OL. Not saying abandon the spread just mix in some different formations. It’s not like we are playing a fast tempo anyway.

We started the NC game in either 11 or 12. Actually have started most games that way. We are getting destroyed with only 6 in the box. It doesn't work. Our center position is so weak its basically messing any hope of a power run game. Because they dont have to commit to the box we are left with 3 wides against 7. Dinos been full on meathead with this all year and its going nowhere. Our only chance is to spread them out, play with tempo and create some lanes. Meat ball isnt going to work with this line.

Everytime we had 2 Tes in we ran.
The play calling was telegraphing our plays.
Meatball?
We can throw the ball with 2 TEs/2 WRs on the field. It’s all about not being predictable and giving the OL one on one matchups.
Clemson/NC State have exploited our OL everytime we got empty or 4 WR. They are blitzing and the QB gets happy feet with the pressure.
 
i do think we need to mix it a bit better. throw to the RB sometimes not on 3rd down and not just the screen. run a draw or 2 early in the downs too.

I like the 2 TE throws and we actually ran a few last week, but protection broke down.

if the oline is getting beat 1x1 then you need to get them in spots to help them too.. old school traps or toss sweeps. just something different.

use the slot , Riley was solid last week we need to ride more of that.

Servais gets pushed back into the backfield on almost every play.

This is absolutely true.
 
We have 2 good TE's; why are we not using them?

Ball has to come out sooner. Plain and simple. The notion that this offense needs 3 seconds of pass protection is false. 3 step drop and ball should be out. If you're not seeing that then that's what's wrong.

I agree the run sets are too predictable. The criticism should stop there though because there isn't much they can do about it from an execution standpoint. If we can see it before the snap, the guys in the box sure as heck can and you're not going to run on anyone with this system if they are sure it's coming, too much advantage to the linebackers when they don't have a coverage check after the snap.
 
Throw out of 12, 21, and 22 more.
Throw on first down more.
Throw to the TEs more.
Screen passes.

Do all of the above on the first couple of drives. Do it successfully and the downfield passes and the run game will open up.

One problem with this is that Chris Elmore is not a threat as a receiver. He played a lot last year and got 1 reception for 6 yards. He has played a ton this year and has no receptions. It does not appear he can catch the ball and even if he could, he is not capable of advancing it. We really need TEs who can block and catch. Benson isn't going to help us much blocking but he at least is someone the defense needs to account for.

It is very hard to make first downs when you are playing 10 on 11 all the time.
 
I wish we had some sets to use motion, just to help identify the coverage and perhaps get some d confusion on certain routes.. But motion does not seem to really be a part of this offense other than for some sprint handoffs.

agree. Can’t Elmore pick up the first guy through the line giving the RB, WR’s and TE more time to get free as well as TD another second to get rid of it.
 
One more thing. We need to at least every now and then throw a pass beyond the line to gain. Its ridiculous the percentage of passes that are short of the sticks. I get that its important for a young QB to throw lots of them. But When its 3rd down, you gotta get beyond the sticks more often than not

You both have agreed kinda seriously bad playcalling . lynch has to stop being oc and go take back the oline.

Agreed. I can’t take too many more “run for nothing, run for nothing, pass 4 yards short of the sticks or throw it away, punt” possessions.

It seems like we did this last game and while we had good protection we didn't do anything offensively. I would re-watch (if you have it in you) the 1st quarter. I think this is exactly what we did, but things were actually worse. Also, Elmore is playing injured.

I actually think we do the opposite. Come out at go warp speed. This is when we seemed to move the ball most effectively. When we go slow we are pitiful. At this point i'd say screw it and go balls to the wall
