One name I may have heard once on here but is a realistic option, and young. Is Rich Pitino. The connection is there and his resume isn’t to shabby. Some things I noted:

Age: 42

W/L: 179–162

Currently: 15-4 with the 25 highest scoring offense (and yes they can shoot ! )

3X NCAA Tournament Appearences

2017 B1G 10 Coach of the Year

Known For: Quick Three’s - fast paced offense and hard nose defense

Brought LOBOS No. 303 in the NET on the day he was hired to the program’s first Mountain West championship and NCAA Tournament in a decade in 2023-24.

Notable Wins: #6 Maryland (2016)#11 Purdue (2019)

**SALARY : 1,200,000*****

No way.

Why settle for someone that was canned at Minnesota?

okay, but he just brought the lobos back to the tourney, he also has a great offense that fits the modern game unlike red. obviously can at least construct players that mold that.

he is also cheap. this is syracuse. it’s realistic.

The one thing we have at our advantage is he’s a northeast guy that coached at Buffalo.
agreed. if it was just us vs UVA i wouldn’t be worried but im guessing miami and indiana have deeper pockets.

Not sure what chances would be, but I would like Jason Hart to be considered. Been successful as an assistant coach and recruiter. Also his time as G league ignite coach and nba connections has to be attractive to players.
he’s solid. can he develop or did he just get handed top 5 prospects that didn’t want to go to college ? not like he recruited them THAT much.

idk if it matters but he went 2-15 last year with the team.

I agree about pitino. But people do learn and grow and become better depending
on their situations. Why hire Joe Torre? Tito Franconia? Bill belichick? The list goes
on and on. But I do agree on young Rick.

Jeter, Pedro, Brady ;)

Young Richard makes 1.2 - money is right for SU. Dad has a rolodex.

He’s who I wanted from the start.

For what it’s worth, only team I’ve heard had a connection with him was Miami.

Just like GMAC, I think Jason Hart could be a successful coach. However, we are in a new era, it’s a business. It’s important to have someone that knows the fan base, the program, and embraces the history. But if things go awry, we have an uncomfortable situation like we do now, where we have someone that is beloved by everyone that we can’t separate Autry the player and person in the community from Autry the head coach. UConn went through this, UNC appears to be going through this, and just because things are all good and well with Duke, they also have to have to worry about going through this if Scheyer doesn’t deliver atleast a final four with Flagg.

The recruiting I was referring to was as an assistant at USC and so far at Kentucky

This is exactly the problem, and it could lead us to a disastrous year 3. It's particularly visible in some (but not all) posters that have close connections to the program.

I like Mick Cronin and he feels realistic. Dude is tough, a gamer, and outspoken. A modern day JB character and he is plug and play. No learning on the job. He is obviously not thrilled with all the B1G travel and thinks it is impacting competitiveness. Maybe an east coast team with less travel sounds appealing in 2 years when his contract is winding down. Thought he was a dweeb in comparison to the big east legends but he has been very steady in the last 10 years

UVA , NOVA, Miami, and Indiana fans are saying the same my man.

good luck on that.
Hodgson is nowhere on the radar of the Indiana fan board. They’re talking bigger established names like Scott Drew, Bruce Pearl, Brad Stevens (lol), Chris Beard, Dusty May. even established coaches like Wes Miller at Cincy. If they’re forced to go with an up and comer, I see them looking at a guy like Ben McCollum at Drake over Hodgson.

UVA has challenging academic requirements and poor NIL. I don’t think they’ll be hard to outduel. The NoVa fan base also seems to be focusing on other coaches or getting Jay Wright to return, lol.
