One Coach Name I like

I like Mick Cronin and he feels realistic. Dude is tough, a gamer, and outspoken. A modern day JB character and he is plug and play. No learning on the job. He is obviously not thrilled with all the B1G travel and thinks it is impacting competitiveness. Maybe an east coast team with less travel sounds appealing in 2 years when his contract is winding down. Thought he was a dweeb in comparison to the big east legends but he has been very steady in the last 10 years
I LOVE Mick Cronin. He teams play great defense. He could be one of those coaches looking for a change of scenery that you can attract, similar to Shaka Smart going to Marquette or Rick Barnes going to Tennessee. Cronin might want to return to the East coast if the wacko UCLA fan base turns on him in the next year or two. I think he and JB like each other from all their years coaching in the Big East so you’d have the legend’s blessing and helping to potentially lure him here.

agreed. if it was just us vs UVA i wouldn’t be worried but im guessing miami and indiana have deeper pockets.
Miami. lol. They’re a hot mess and have always had a disengaged fan base. I wouldn’t worry about them either.

What has Bryan Hodgson done as a head coach to have everyone drool over him?
Beat Memphis? Maybe let him lead a team to the NCAA tournament first.
Look at Pat Kelsey's and Nate Oats coaching resume before getting a power conference job.
Lets pump the breaks that Hodgson will turn this program around

Unless I am mistaken, We already have a Coach! Syracuse Men's basketball doesn't have an opening, are we talking about a High School coaching vacancy in the 315?

Does Jason Hart know how to coach? We’re seeing this with red who doesn’t have a clue. I’d want Cronin, Miller, Langel, McCollum, Hodgson.
Agreed. I like all those names except Langel. He’s never recruited or been an assistant at the P5 level, and Colgate has been good, not great. If he can prove himself in the A10, then maybe.

Mick had his say about about his team around a week ago. Ruffled lots of feathers and started lots of conversations on sports talk shows etc.
This is why coaches all around the country at the high major level are disillusioned. He’s right so many of these players are delusional about their abilities and how hard you have to work. In Red’s defense, he doesn’t have an easy job.

Get Sadiq and Kiyan in a room, with Melo, and find out what names they like. I have no problem with getting them to weigh in if we are truly concerned about losing them.

Using Coach Fran as an example, who do we see on the basketball side having his same connectivity to the community, fire and passion, and ability to really connect with young athletes. I see Devo having similar qualities as coach Fran

Good idea. Let’s have a couple high school kids hire our next coach. All for it.
It's a terrible idea, agreed. Just as is being so afraid they will play somewhere else that we wont even explore the idea of making a change. We give them too much power.

You can’t always judge a guy completely on his records.
Look at Mark Byington who is killing it with Vandy this year. Just beat Tennessee. He was head coach of Georgia Southern and James Madison and only made the tourney one time last season.
Hurley only went two times in his career before UConn.
Otzelberger was 12-15 at UNLV before Iowa State hired him away.

My point is it’s not always black and white when it comes to hiring a new coach. A lot depends on the situation you’re in. The players you have. The support you have.

I have also been a big fan of Cronin. He comes from the school of Bob Huggins and Rick Pitino. No choice but to be tough. I’ve always loved his roster construction of a front court of Charle Oakley type guys. Big strong and tough. Never easy to play against. You had to earn everything.
I’d be beyond stoked if we ever had a chance at him.

You don't have a clue! Stop with this hate on Coach Autry! This entire conversation is ridiculous. He has not had enough time to prove anything. Syracuse fans are ridiculous. This program has been on the decline for at least the past 5-7 years of the Coach Boeheim period and it will take more than two years to revive this program...

Hodgson is nowhere on the radar of the Indiana fan board. They’re talking bigger established names like Scott Drew, Bruce Pearl, Brad Stevens (lol), Chris Beard, Dusty May. even established coaches like Wes Miller at Cincy. If they’re forced to go with an up and comer, I see them looking at a guy like Ben McCollum at Drake over Hodgson.

UVA has challenging academic requirements and poor NIL. I don’t think they’ll be hard to outduel. The NoVa fan base also seems to be focusing on other coaches or getting Jay Wright to return, lol.

It amazes me that fans of any program would throw Stevens into any mix of potential HCs.

That dude is on his Pat Riley track, just living in a northeast city vs Miami.

He probably bought a stake in Modern Bakery and summers in the cape at this point.

Yes and Red was a part of that decline. Why do we believe he is the guy to right the ship? He has constructed a roster that cannot compete with good teams. He has made multiple obvious mistakes in game coaching. He has not given us any reason to believe he deserves more time at the helm.
If you don’t like the conversation then don’t read. Some of us like to discuss the future and what we would like to see happen. What coaches we like and so forth. It’s a long season and plenty of topics will come up.
