One decade ago today...

I forget who he's playing for and don't feel like looking it up, but I was surprised to see Geno is still kicking around as a backup in the league.

Still unreal the team couldn't win another game that season after the WVU game and missed out on a bowl game and what would have been a 4 year bowl streak.

I remember the game at Uconn being insanely frustrating that year.
They ran same play with QB all game

He's the starter at Seattle now that Russ is out.

With a lot of 0-2 star players. Good thing we’re better at recruiting now, you’d never have a 1 win season nowadays.
Like when they beat VPI in Dino's first year? Pretty much the same situation.

This will trigger some people on this board, but Marrone was a damn good coach for the players he had at the time. There were some studs no doubt, but many of his wins came from out coaching the other side.

Had two 8-5 seasons with 2 bowl wins in 4 years. That’d be dreamy right about now.

I wouldn’t characterize it the same at all IMO.
That's cool. Differing opinions are what make the world go round, and this board! I just think we often overrate where we were with Doug. I don't believe Dino is a great coach, but he also had some big signature wins here, and led the team to only its second double-digit win season in the 21st century.

Absolutely agree with that. I think Doug was a great coach. I also realize there were games I felt we should have won or periods of time that were hugely deflating, as you mentioned. But I think he got more out of the players than we’ve seen so far. His first year he got rid of 30% of the players and his first recruiting class he had like 1 or 1.5 months to recruit. We even signed a QB I think from Conn that wasn’t even a 1 star and no offers. Pretty dire stuff really.

I just personally think he did more with less. That includes his staff, some really solid coaches that made low rated players solid players.

haters lack judgment

That was a great night at the Dome
One of my favorite SU games. Was so fired up. I was doing laps around the house both inside and outside, after the interception to end the 3rd quarter.

I just remember being at the Dome with a couple buddies for one of our last games attending as Seniors. Didn't have have huge expectations for the game since as others stated we were fortunate to have 4 wins at that point in the season.

Then we kicked the crap out of WV and I got excited about the future again.

let's also remember their AD at the time, that a-hole Oliver Luck, and how he trashed our football program just a couple of weeks or so before this game, when we announced we were leaving the Big East. As nice a kid as his son appears to be, the old man is an arrogant dirtbag

Ah, that was the game that I posted that we had “turned the corner”.

Yep, my turned the corner moment was the Missouri victory there, tommorow I hoping to once again declare it……
