If we even see a sliver of success, the fans, the local media- hell ,apparently everybody,everywhere- wonders when the coach is gonna leave. We are OBSESSED with the topic. Every local sports talk show and fan board is dominated by the topic. How in the world can this staff recruit when all anybody does in this town is talk about when they are gonna leave? This doormat self image we have trickles down, in my opinion, to kids trying to look in to the program. At a time when I should feel euphoric with our rise, I’m actually downtrodden with where this is going to end up.
We all know the only way we can sustain success is if we can keep a consistent staff on board. That seems highly unlikely being the minute a guy gets 5 wins around here, we are convinced he will be gone to “ greener pastures.” For somebody that loves this program and has since he’s been a kid...it makes me sick to my stomach.

Umm... you're complaining about how this topic is all people are talking about but YOU just started a brand new thread about a topic already discussed ad nauseam in multiple other threads.

Well, nobody goes to the games so it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy

Its like any reasonably young person with any dynamism has left for greener pastures and the ones left either aren’t many in number, don’t have the resources, or don’t have the will to go do a fun thing for $100 (family of four) or $50 (couple).

Before anyone jumps on me I’m not saying bad people at all, I’m just saying either different or unable. This team is good...Louisville, despite being down this year, had a Heisman-guy last year.

Pretty embarrassing if there are 38k on Friday.

Unfortunately I’ll be on vacation or I’d prob go (hitting ND, maybe BC and prob a Bowl), but I’m not an alum and don’t live there so I’m not in the “pool”.

If this were the south they’d be moving High school soccer and football playoff games, etc. Football is a sport where to a large degree you kinda get the team/program you deserve.

Dave, have confidence that the right guy is at the helm. Whatever happens it won’t be because of mismanagement

It is kind of weird the buzz around town hasn’t translated to butts in the seats. There is certainly far more Syracuse football talk than there has been in the past. I’m in sales so I’m all over the area, meeting loads of different people on a weekly basis, and I’ve had far more random Syracuse football talk this year than all other years combined .

Then again there was a good turn out for NCST. With senior night being on a Friday night there is absolutely no reason we shouldn’t be able to at very least equal the NCST attendance. Anything less (and it sure looks that way looking at Ticketmaster) will be a pretty big disappointment . I just can’t put my finger on why the buzz hasn’t turned into an attendance spike?

During his first season, there were some posters that were worried that HCSS was going to get lured away.

Was there ever talk of Coach P being stolen away? I don't recall a story about him jumping ship.

Buzz about the team, juice, renewed interest, and excitement over DINO and 7-2 is just the start with putting butts in the seats. FB, college and pro has a problem with attendance. The game is on the duece, its a full day and night parking and getting to your seats, and its a process getting home. Yes, i am with you guys, i go to every game and love it, but fb is the best TV sport by far and when the game on tv is promoted more than tickets to the game, you have a problem. add in the fact, tbe casual fan jumping in now, has no connection to this senior class.

Go cuse!

Yes, to some extent. He was loyal, but he was a PSU product and they were the likley poacher. Thankfully JoePa didn't retire so PP didn't have a serious enticement to leave. He could have entertained offers elsewhere. had he wanted to, at least until the slump. However, SU was still at the top levels, there was no reason to leave.

I kind of see HCDB doing the same, again. So long as SU takes care of him (and they will), HCDB makes SU a destination job.

The ultimate board melt down will be when Dino signs with Rutgers.

P didn’t work the system either and allow for the machine to toss his name out there. After 1992, 1996, 1998 he could have gotten an SEC job. He was only leaving for penn st and maybe not even that. Not sure nfl was gonna work either bc he saw how quickly Mac got discarded.

P liked Syracuse a lot. Dino May too so that is the ultimate card. If he has designs on something else we will know soon enough bc his name will float per agent and handlers

Buzz is huge. I’m on wall st and everyone wanrs to talk Syracuse right now. It’s fun.

I always wonder how the economy in Syracuse has impacted spending for many up there. Maybe people have decided they will go to the hoops vs football at this point. It’s not a growing area and honestly for alum like me I’m too busy w kids to consider going to Syracuse for a game. I am going to yankee stadium w my son bc we can train there and will head to Heights.

I can imagine I’m not the only alum who doesn’t travel back much to game. It’s not just us. Bc is ranked 14 and u can buy a ticket to that game vs SU for 15 bucks on stubhub right now. Could be two top 10 teams facing off

The games are all on TV now. No local blackouts and, due to technology, you can't even institute a blackout.
When were blackouts last used? I think that can influence turnout significantly.

To equate this to professional soccer (weird right), almost every program is a seller. Aside from maybe seven or eight programs, every school runs the risk of losing their coach to a bigger program (however you want to define that). Even those schools lose coaches from time-to-time due to things like NFL aspirations, more $, a perceived better chance to win, etc.

What are the final destination schools? Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Texas, OSU, Michy, Notre Dame, and USC. To me that's it. Every other school has a chance of their coach being poached. Just within our conference Dabo is considered a candidate for Bama should Saban leave, and Jimbo just jumped ship for Texas a&m.

Coaches leaving these days is practically inevitable. Enjoy their success while they are here and trust the AD to have a succession plan in place to keep things rolling.

We havent lost a coach to another college in forever 2 football coaches have gone to the NFL since Danforth took the Tulane job but thats it.

Dino has his next Garroppolo and the schedule just eased up with FSU and Ville being messes. This isn't a time to move.

its not hard to do a blackout.. i mean how many people have gone to the trouble of getting a vpn working? probably way less than 10% most people only stream the normal stuff and blackouts stop that pretty easy.

I would put your comments on the local economy as reason 1a (#1 being 17 years of mostly awful football) for the current lag between this year’s performance and attendance.

In addition to the local economy being flat (at best) for decades, the mix of jobs has shifted against the typical football watching crowd.

I think things are starting to improve on the local economy. A renaissance for both the city and SU football would be a great symbiotic change.

Dino will be a hot commodity in the off-season. That is pretty much guaranteed at this point.

That's why he should have already signed an extension. If they want him that bad, they would have to pay a huge buyout.

Like having high quality recruits, you want a coach everyone wants and I wouldn't want it any other way.
