If Steve is so solid at PR why isnt he provided with a chance to return KO?
If Doug put PTG on kick off returns he really doesnt have a clue. Why would we risk our best TB on a kick off return when we have plenty of kids that can handle the role?Fair question.
I'd prefer not to have PTG back there with his injury history.

Agreed if we had their depth. PTG is really important to us. AAM is like Smith if PTG goes down we really dont have anyone other than a frosh to play his role as Rene just doesnt have itIt worked out pretty well for NW...and M. Lee returns kicks for USC
So I'm not so sure he's doing anything different than anybody else out there

We have three backs that are not true frosh as i really dont count Ash. He doesnt know the playbook he isnt a change up type of quick back like PTG and AAM is basically another Smith in this O. Other than two true frosh one who only had a few days of fall practice at RB in Devonte and Rene we do not have another back who can do what PTG can do. Kick off returns are the cause of many injuries and simply afraid that the benefit of playing him on returns doesnt warrant the risk of losing him as a featured back considering we really dont have anyone to replace him.NW was deep?? And we have 6 kids at tb/Rb, 7 if you count Broyld...
PTG returned kicks before as well so we are not sticking someone raw back there as well
It's not a crazy decision
how do you know they have plenty of kids that fit the role? It's not just about running fast. Also, there's a huge difference between kick return and punt return. Rene's hands make him invaluable for punting. If Doug put PTG on kick off returns he really doesnt have a clue. Different skill set. Even back in the day Ismail did KR and Hill did PR.If Steve is so solid at PR why isnt he provided with a chance to return KO?
Qadry Ismail was our best KO returner the 4 years he was here and he never returned punts. Conversely, Quinton Spotwood returned 4 punts for touchdowns in 1997 but never returned kickoffs. If Steve is so solid at PR why isnt he provided with a chance to return KO?
No not as much as i thought that in Quadry he was much more valuable as a return guy than a reciever. Spotwood was just special and had a chance to take it to the house each and everytime he touched the ball. Kevin not really as he didnt come into his own a reciever until later in his time on the hill plus we were much deeper than as a squad. For some reason given the fact that PTG has been hurt so much and that i feel he is really critical to the O i just wish we could give one of the young guys like Morgan a shot. Or burn Devontes RS and let him get a feel for the game same with Morris. Just an opinion guys but i would hate to lose him returning kicks or puntsWere you concerned about Spotwood, Kevin Johnson, Quadry Ismail, and the likes returning kickoffs and punts?
I dont hate the kid or really anyone for that matter. I just feel as if we would be better off giving him a crack at KO if the staff feels he is a threat. Everyone else blames his lack of punt returns on the fact that he never has any room to return. That wouldnt be the case on KOS. Do i think that Steve is a gifted return man? No i dont. Is he good at catching the ball? Yes he is. For me i would like to see us play to win on Special teams not play to just not make a mistake.we get it...you hate the kid, coach
I don't know that we've ever great depth behind our best players. In the early 90's we didn't have too much behind Ismail and Hill at WR when they were our returners. In the late 90's we didn't have much behind KJ and Spotwood when they were our primary returners. We need to play our best players and not worry about injuries until they happen.Agreed if we had their depth. PTG is really important to us. AAM is like Smith if PTG goes down we really dont have anyone other than a frosh to play his role as Rene just doesnt have it
Phat what is your opinion are you for PTG returning KOS? Also if he did go down do you think they would play Morris? ThxSpotwood returned punts but not kicks its totally different skill set. Kirby dar dar returned kicks to.
I can agree with that. I would like to think we've got one kid on the roster with good enough hands that also has return skills.I dont hate the kid or really anyone for that matter. I just feel as if we would be better off giving him a crack at KO if the staff feels he is a threat. Everyone else blames his lack of punt returns on the fact that he never has any room to return. Hey what do i know put PTG and Ryan back there Geez it is just an opinion.Barry Sanders used to do a pretty good job of returning kickoffs.
Phat what is your opinion are you for PTG returning KOS? Also if he did go down do you think they would play Morris? Thx
I agree Beowolf LOL! This one could stick!I don't like ptg returning kicks and I'd rather see someone like Wayne Morgan doing it. But to be fair I'm not at practice.
If ptg went down I think it would be a huge blow to the o. I Wouldn't see Beowulf (lol spell check) filling that hole and believe they'd have to play Morris. Beowulf s/b Broyld
Agreed - we took a big hit last year when he got hurt, not having him at RB would be a problem the rest of the year.We have three backs that are not true frosh as i really dont count Ash.
