One NYC take on the SU/PSU game...

Winning cures everything.

When Syracuse becomes a perennial national power, New Yorkers will follow them. Syracuse is the only horse in college town for New York, & this is a fantastic opportunity for them to seize control.

The side conversation in here is funny to me. The meadowlands is in the center of all the main highways. Plus, as a season ticket holder, half of the experience is the tailgate, not bc the team plays in a venue that is near bars or restaurants. Also, the superbowl will bring those for u soon.

This game would get a lot more coverage in NYC media if it was in Yankee Stadium. Anything in NJ just gets less coverage.

I can't disagree with much in the article.

When Syracuse starts consistently playing exciting/competive football year in and year out, casual Cuse fans will come out to Met Life in greater numbers. Right now there's still some doubt.

And frankly, I'd much rather sell out the Dome every week than worry about what percentage of NYC residents root for Orange football.

But the Orange needs to be good - very good to make noise in that market.

And it would really help if SU could land a transcendent player to be the face of the program on a national level.

NYC and NJ media LOVES stars... Give em a star and they'll never stop talking about him.

Standing in miles of unshaded concrete on a day like today ain't for everyone.

Wanting simple mass transit to the largest stadium in the NYC market - considering every other arena there thrives on it, shouldn't be a tall order.

If you made a team of the best high school players from any one of Louisiana, Alabama, or Mississippi alone, they would be better than Syracuse, or probably any team in the northeast for that matter. The one player in the 2014 ESPN top 50 from the northeast is going to Michigan.

It doesn't matter how many tri-staters or up-staters wear Cuse jerseys or go to games - if you don't have the players, you'll never get anywhere. Until Syracuse can take players away from Michigan, Ohio State or hell, even Rutgers, they will never be at "that" level. This is not even considering the culture of college football.

He is a fool and Doc is a genius. Perception is reality and Doc didnt advertise Syracuse as NY team to New Yorkers. His goal was to create the perception for outsiders. Namely the other leagues
The article and the point of the post relates awareness of college football in the NYC market.

But it's true that all the people spending money on SU...(read TV & advertisers)...are totally fooled by a branding slogan.
No question.
It does make us all feel good though that all the leagues and rubes elsewhere in America associate SU as New York's College Team.
There must be some value to that somewhere.

The slogan is clever and may be effective everywhere except where it count$$.

Another example: 5:15PM sportscast today on WINS all news radio in NYC.
The game is nearing halftime.
NO MENTION OF IT.
Total irrelevance.

Syracuse itself means next to nothing in NYC to anyone besides alumni.
If one of the teams was ranked it likely would be a different story.
Success sells...not slogans.

It's a no brainer.

There is NO ONE else to represent New York State or New York City.
