One thing I like about bringing so many BGSU guys over

Just wait until Dino leaves in 3 years...this place will be on meltdown mode.

Ha, this is like literally the second best possible outcome. This isn't a guy like Marrone that's just trying to show something on the way to the pros. If he's hired away by another school, that almost has to mean he has turned Syracuse around and proven you can win here. I'd be very surprised if a much better job than Syracuse is going to come calling after 6 or 7 win seasons. I'm not aware of any super strong ties, like Frost -> Nebraska or Malzahn -> Auburn or Kiffen -> USC, where it was obvious where things were pointing and the guy had to prove himself merely barely competent and he would be gone.

If he's hired away after three years, I'm guessing that would probably include at least one 8 win and another 9 or even 10 win season. If he does that, he's definitely done his job. It might hurt, but if that happens this will have been an absolute home run of a hire. You tip your cap, and probably have the best pool of replacement candidates that you've had in decades for a hire.

Maybe. But they're probably all tainted by that real . . !tty brown that BGSU mixes with their orange just like the Clowns do. Only worse use of the color orange is when its mixed with Maroon like VT does.
I don't much care for Miami's use of dark green.

Lou, I perceive that you are a man of wisdom and understanding.

Speaking of leaving...was Jimbo going to LSU if it opened up?

Speaking of leaving...was Jimbo going to LSU if it opened up?

No, it didn't open up because he wasn't going. Sounds like someone on his side listened, made outrageous financial demands to move that even LSU couldn't swallow, which is the way your "decline" a job when you have an agent, especially one like Billy Sexton.

FSU is a good job right now, and much better now than when Jimbo took it, thanks to Jimbo. And there are personal factors at the moment for Jimbo now as well.

But FSU fans should not be naive...this time next year, or in 2017, he might be leaving for LSU, Alabama, Texas or the Buccaneers. There's maybe 3-5 programs that can't have their coach taken by ANYBODY else in college, an even those can have them taken by the NFL. And there's very strong evidence to suggest that almost all coaches see diminishing returns after 6-8 years in one spot in the current landscape, and I think coaches get that. I don't think you'll see many guys doing 10+ years anymore at major programs, let alone 15-25 years.

I don't think the timing was right for Jimbo to go right now. I wouldn't be shocked if he was still at FSU five years from now, but I would be at least somewhat surprised.

Hope the personal factors are nothing serious...

Does that mean we'll have 8-9 wins in 3 years under Babers' system?

I'll live.

Consider me impressed that an FSU fan knows how to get around our s e x word filter.

Not happening.

It's pretty naïve to think that if Dino turns the program around and is successful, that another program or the NFL might take him away. We've seen it before and Dino certainly has shown a willingness to take on the next opportunity. If it does happen, it means that we don't suck anymore and if we still have Coyle at AD I'm sure he'll know what to do. I'm curious about the contract buyout $$$ they settled on.

I don't think so. If you look at his history he has only been a head coach since 2012. A lifelong assistant for 28 years, a lot of the moves are not your decision (your HC gets fired!) .

This is a guy who has always wanted to be a head coach and took a 50% pay cut to do so at Eastern Illinois. Two years at BG money and he is probably still in the hole versus staying at Baylor. He is 54 and has a HC job at a P5 team - I would say he is probably thinking he can retire here. By the time he proves his point, he will be 57. Not too many CFB jobs get filled by 57 year-olds.

I think we will be saying "Dino Dome" for a long time.

Actually, it is pretty serious. He has two young sons that are always around the program, and the younger one has a very rare and incurable blood disease called Franconi's anemia. Unfortunately, the lifespan of someone with this disease is less than 30 years. He and his ex-wife have founded and promoted an organization (www.kidz1stfund.com) to push toward treatment and cure, particularly finding marrow donors, as marrow transplants are the one life-extending treatment. The entire Florida State family has been fully behind and ultra-supportive of the efforts, as has to some extent the rest of the ACC. Coincidentally, former UVA coach Mike London also has a daughter with this affliction. There's some real community investment behind the efforts in Tallahassee, who had already gotten to know Jimbo's kids, and were crushed by the diagnosis as a fan base. Certainly any new job would embrace those efforts as well, but it might not be quite the same.

On top of that, the key point in the above is EX wife. They were a very public couple, who divorced over the summer due to a fairly scandalous situation that was semi public (not something Jimbo did). So for him to leave raises very complicated custody issues, and would very likely significantly affect the time he would have with his sons (which is already limited as a coach obviously).

Finally, the change in president at FSU, and maybe to a lesser extent the AD, has resulted in what is reported to be an extremely close working relationship/friendship with Jimbo, and so if/when he leaves, it might be less likely to be for a organizational structure that so publicly showed their a$$ like LSU's just did.

Again, that's not to say he won't leave in the future, as I expect he will. But at this moment, FSU has not only shown that it's going to invest the resources to not easily be simply outbid for staff or out-facilitied, but there is this additional stuff as well that makes FSU a tough situation to beat for Jimbo right now.

Sounds great but doesn't mean that's his thought process. Sometimes A doesn't lead to B

I hope it is true but it won't surprise me any way this unfolds in the future.

Yikes - I never heard about that (or London, for that matter). Hope they find a treatment/cure soon. Thanks for sharing.

Could be, and his age and offense will exclude him from a ton of jobs. I dare say he'll never be a hot commodity in the SEC for a few reasons, and he won't fit the mold of what the true elites in the B1G or Big 12 would be looking for...they will not likely be looking for a guy pushing 60 to jump from Syracuse to Oklahoma or Ohio State. Baylor could be an issue I suppose if that opens up, but they'll probably have some options.

Otherwise, I would suspect the main suitor would probably only be from second-tier programs like Texas Tech, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa State, Maryland etc. Those are pretty well-funded programs, it's not that unthinkable that they could pull a Syracuse coach, unless Syracuse makes it unthinkable. It will be up to whether Syracuse has stepped up with the salaries, facilities, fan support etc to compete. If they do, they should theoretically be able to fend off that level of suitor, and if they haven't, then that's just life in the big city.

Considering that most think Babers is a stronger hire than those schools just made, it shouldn't be too much of a leap to keep him if they are committed (although I think Iowa State hit a similarly impressive home run with their hire).

If/when Briles calls it a day, I think they would keep it all in the family and promote his son, Kendall, who is currently the OC.

Yep, that would be the number one option I suspect for Baylor.

A lot of those jobs are complete rebuilds. It would be rare for a coach who just built a program to leave a job for another complete rebuild. I'd be more worried about him going to Clemson or Florida State or one of the other factories if he does well here. Especially after he gets a W or two against you and Clemson.
