One thing we could really use is a power back

I personally think the ability to run straight ahead and get those tough yards is a primary reason this team is being held back. Yes, football seems to be run out of the pistol with a read/option offense and plenty of passing. But I'll take a good tough fullback, a real blocking TE to compliment a solid OLine any day to at least pick up those tough yards. Just look at programs like Stanford and LSU. Hell WVU used a FB with the spread.

It would also help preserve Dungey's football life. I believe he is one or two solid hits away from joining AJ Long. His abilities are great but he is running for his life.

Running under center will allow SU to get those short-yardage situations too. The longer the ball spends in the backfield and the deeper the ball goes, the more likely the defense can make a TFL. Basic football.

SU can recruit for a smash-mouth approach; I wish we'd see more of that incorporated into the offense.

In recent weeks I would have agreed with this, but Dungey was barely put into harm's way yesterday. The one time he got banged up was on what was clearly a miscommunication in the backfield and he was forced to improvise. I was stunned by how quickly he has progressed from tucking and running constantly to throwing it away or hanging in the pocket. He's an extremely quick study.

I don't disagree with your point that he is making quicker reads, but I still don't think ANY QB is safe behind this line. This is supposed to be the most experienced unit on the team but they play like they are new to their role. Thank God Dungey is getting rid of the ball quicker.

Good point.

Even more impressive to me is the dramatic improvement Dungey made from VA to Pitt game in terms quickly recognizing and hitting the hot receive when blitzed. His ability/inability to do that might not be obvious to Joe fan, but I am sure the staff is stunned by his progress in this area. This kid is the real deal.

Just as importantly, having that on tape now makes it much harder to game plan against him going forward.

Big step

Yes, I don't know with 100% certainty that it would've worked, which is why I specifically stated "I think" that running out of the shotgun from the .5 yard line against UVa cost us 7 points. I also think that your first point is asinine.

Okay. Let's play. I think that the face mask cost us the game.

Who's right?

It's impossible to tell. Why? Because lots of things happen during a game that can swing things one way or another.

He was in the Wildcat down inside the 5 yesterday on one possession at least. Didn't get much out of it, mainly because we tried to go off left tackle if I remember correctly.
he got a first down for us on a 4th down if I remember correctly
