The run defense. And I was the one that said the DL and Daost were the biggest surprise of the season. Others point to this play or that play or to this player or players but not everything or everyone is going to be perfect. Not close.

But the bottom line is if we had not won that game, it would have been on the run defense. Nobody else. They didn't have a bad play or two nor a bad series, they were sliced up the whole game.

I wonder if our scheme over compensated to stop Daniels, which we didn't do anyways. I worry we see 2 more similar QB's.

Lot of contain schemes which gave USF big holes. The LBs weren't great either.

I thought the LB's were blown up most of the game

Just when I thought Shafer had his act together, he barfs up that abortion yesterday. Whatever offense he prepared for, it wasn't USF's. Maybe he got the wrong game tapes to study? No matter, he'll have two shots in a row to prepare for a running QB coming up. Except that both Muchie and Teddy are better than BJ.

I'm also hoping that USF's line is really good as well. I thought they played very well and sealed our lb's out of the play as well as the dline. Davis 6 tackles Spruill 5 tackles, Lynch 2...Diabate 2. The SU middle lb having 2 tackles kind of shows us something, he was trapped and sealed last night.

How many personal fouls did Sharpe have...1 or 2?

Daniels is stronger than Munchie but not as a good passer as Bridgewater who is just as strong as Daniels but keeps his head up better. It's going to be tough no doubt.

In another thread somebody mentioned that Shamarko didn't seem like he was 100% because he missed so many tackles. Next week hopefully the defense will revert to it's form during the Pitt game.

LB's are a huge part of the run defense but the DL was neither making any tackles nor keeping blockers off the LB's. I also think the scheme had something to do with it also. The scheme we played to combat the spread and try to contain Daniels relied on the DL making plays between the tackles.

i thought we were overly aggressive which caused the holes to open up for him to run. It will be interesting to see how we do against Cinci and Louisville. Bridge is an excellent pocket passer and is less likely to run in my opinion

I thought I was looking at a different team. USF's first drive was way too easy, and the second drive. It was shocking.

SU's offense scored 3 points in the first half and 34 points in the second half. Reminds me of the NW game. The 3 points in the first half was disappointing, but the second half was magical.

That could be a bad thing as he does keep moving/head up and our DB's better stay on their guys/areas or they could have some long gains.

Good points about the ol. I haven't watched a lot of either Cincy or Louisville, but my impression is that Louisville has the better ol of the 2, comparable to USF. The linebackers did seem to be laying back and not rushing the gaps as much as against UConn and USF was able to take advantage of the cushion.

But I give the D some credit, they at least fought hard enough to force fg's...one more td and it's possibly game over.

agree with you. I was very impressed Friday night when i watched the game. He was very poised and has NFL stud written all over him.

He's a heck of a player and is very mature skill wise for his age. I hope our old dog at qb shows him a trick or two in a few weeks.

Not only was our D-Line not up to the task, our linebackers couldn't shed blocks. When they did blitz, they didn't hide it. Daniels had no problem adjusting ... when we overload on one side, he'd check to a play on the other side, or scamper himself (he knew we couldn't stop him). If he thought we had LB's or a safety coming on both sides, he'd throw or handoff to the RB on that draw --- the same one they lit us up with 3-4 times (one for a 70+ yard TD). Pretty hard to see us getting burned repeatedly on one play without figuring out how to deal with their pulling linemen. That said, we stopped them at the end with the game on the line ... and we never quit. Ryan and the receivers put on a show, despite some weird officiating (they cancelled 2 of our three TD's at the end ala USA-Russia). But Lemon took care of business.

Their kicker was on crack.

USF had lineman pulling into those holes leading the RB's and they killed our linebackers at the POA.

I'd also like to point out that when we did have an opportunity to sack Daniels, we couldn't wrap him up.

That has been the case for another number of different SU defenders throughout the last two years. This year, it's been a bit better without P. Thomas. But last night not a whole lot of wrapping up on tackles.

Yep. The poor tackling reared its ugly head again.

really wonder what the issue was. we have been in the backfield for weeks, we had multiple players in the backfield last night at times but always seemed in the wrong hole. the only good thing is that USF ran for 200 against UL the week before. not good they double the YPC average against us though.

It's never good when your MLB only has two tackled for the entire game.

USF scored 13 points in the second half, which was a lot better than the 23 in the first half.

Question: Daost is in the box with Shafer, who's making the adjustments down on the sideline?
