So what have we learned after the first real game?

- Chuckwu might as well be Chino
- There's a reason Gillon was playing at a Mtn West school
- We still have the not-plugged-in Robey issue
- our star freshman (Battle) is not ready for primetime (but will probably leave early anyway - you know, upside and all that)
- Our best PG can't shoot FTs
- White is, indeed, a one-trick pony and if that one trick isn't working he's mostly useless
- There appears to be no measurable improvement of the team's half-court offense

Proclamations after cupcake blowouts are funny

I hated liking that post.

I'm calling myself out right now. I started a thread the other day asking why White isn't in the NBA, and I also said he's the best offensive player we have had since Melo. I know this is just one game, but that was really off the mark.

I get the sarcasm, but Battle couldn't even get to the rim against Colgate.

I think we needed more Battle, less Chukwu, less Gillon, slightly less White. We needed someone more dynamic out there with Gillon/White not able to create off the bounce at all against their athletes.

Battle looked shaky one possession, okay with the ball on one (but just sort of dribbling in place...lol), and fired a stupid three on the other. But comparatively, hardly seemed worthy of no PT. Who knows, can't judge much because he didn't play much, but would have liked to have seen him in their some more. He could have at least matched their athleticism...or at least been a tad better with the ball. I think. Eh, I don't know yet.

Battle is still hard to judge.

Well, that certainly sucked. But I've always said, it's not a problem until you see it happen more than once. We have a lot of young players who maybe just found out what playing against tough defense was all about. Their interior passing ate a week's worth of our lunch. But that's what these games are all about. It will get better.:noidea:

I agree, but he had his chances to be dynamic and make a difference in the first half but was tentative and fired up a ridiculous three early in the clock

we shot 32% they shot 45. That was 9 more buckets and the difference in the game today.

JB went with howard and gillon at pg and sg for awhile and it was working gave us three guys who can create off the dribble. That was my biggest thought at halftime no creating off the dribble one on one.

One of those games where we just couldn't get ahead. Games like that can be hard to watch once it gets down to that 3 minute mark.

being in the bonus with 13:30 left in the 2nd half and not taking advantage of it.

chuckwu thompson and battle haven't earned their minutes yet.

Roberson was caught offguard reminds me of early last year where he had to do more then he expects.

This will be a good learning experience. Lots of chemistry and confidence issues to work on.

And we're still a weak rebounding team. Only Coleman rebounds and he plays sparingly for some reason.

Lydon manned up a bit in the 2nd half - but yeah SC pretty much big-boyed us on the glass

WOW!!! Was just looking over the box score we had total of 14 baskets, 6 were threes. Hard to believe Syracuse played 40 minutes and only scored 8 two point buckets. The defense was good but we made t look a lot better. Agree on more need to have Battle step up his game. In the end, Frank Martin had a game plan and they executed it. Lots for this team to learn. Let's hope we can regroup before the next game.

How long have you watched SU games for? Free throw ability is a prerequisite for making this team! ;)
Yep. We don't want guys who can shoot free throws. Never have. Once in a while one gets through (like GMac) somehow.

Was this thread title based on a bad sound being made or do the letters stand for b*nned language? ;)

The most invisible 34 minutes I can remember for an SU player. When he was out, I wondered why he was on the bench but when he was in, I didn't even know it. Now Lydon on the other hand ONLY had 35 minutes. OMG, I thought it was more. AND you knew he was in there for almost every second of them too.

How many possessions did he play? I can only remember 4, but it was probably much more. I just didn't notice anything too worrisome, whereas, I did note some worrisome stuff from others! lol

Sit him down, chat, send him back in!

maybe but I knew that forced 3 early in the clock meant curtains for him
