Ooooof, article on ranking football stadiums in the ACC

While I find it hilarious that this person rated a stadium based on TV angles, I’m not sure why so many are taking issue with the fact the writer called the stadium a BBall stadium doubling for football. How often over the last 20 years has the Dome sold out for a football game? If they opened up all the seats for bball, people would even pay for the ones without site lines.

Maybe it is because the dome was designed and built for football. Period. At the last minute, someone suggested that with the popularity of the men’s basketball team, which was selling out Manley regularly, it might make sense to tweak the design so the dome could host some basketball games.

So the end zone stands on the lower level of the eastern side of the dome were designed to be mobile.

Attendance for basketball games at the dome exceeded the wildest dreams anyone involved ever had. But the fact is, the dome was built for football. This is something anyone with casual interest in sports in the northeast knows.

Exactly. Regardless of which sport is more popular or more successful, the bottom line is the facility was built for football.

Because...it’s actually a football stadium? Period? Look at the design.

“We all know it’s a basketball arena being forced into double duty.”

This makes no sense. Obviously the basketball program is much more successful, but if anything the basketball setup is 100x more awkward than the football setup.

I would have us middle of the pack, at worst.

My rankings(I’ve been to SU and UNC so they get some extra ink):

1. Clemson
2. FSU
3. VT
Big time college football atmospheres.^^^^

4. SU (air conditioned and loud with the roof)
5. UNC (very scenic with the trees)
6. GT
They look unique and kinda cool. ^^^^

7. Louisville
8. Virginia
9. NC State
Basic, standard middle of the road places both new and old.^^^^

10. Miami
11. Pitt
Cookie cutter soul sucking NFL stadiums. ^^^^

12. Wake Forest
13. Duke
14. BC
Boring, rinky dink high school stadiums that nobody in the world knows or cares about. ^^^^

Move along, nothing else to see here.

I have a good feeling for Duke's stadium. You don't have 80,000 screaming fans and you can enjoy the sun. I was a grad student (81 - 83) and we would sit and drink "upside down" margaritas. The game itself was secondary to the fun.

Put the pitchforks away. It was a tongue in cheek comment. I don’t think the OP actually thought it’s a basketball stadium. You all need to loosen up. You’ve been trolled.

Every single statement made about the dome in that article was wrong. Maybe the worst thing was he had a category for unique and thought the dome did not belong there.

I am amazed someone that dim is able to type up an article. Good for him!
"An infinite number of monkeys sitting in front of an infinite number of typewriters. . ."

I think his list is very fair outside of him clearly wanting to take a shot at Syracuse.

You guys remember how good BC was in football their first few years in the ACC before we joined? They were looking down at Clemson.

No talent writer starving for attention targets a fan base he might just get a reaction from.

Mitch, it is time to leave your basement and travel to some of these places you are trying to write about, so next time, you won't look like a complete idiot.

How sad there are people out there so clueless and desperate for attention.

Clemson lost between 4 and 7 games every single season from 2001-2010, so that’s really not that big of a deal. They were 45-35 in ACC play in those years.

Easy to forget that they were merely a consistently above average program for two decades.

So true Tom. I have been fortunate enough to go to some great games, great venues all over the world. SU ranks at the top for college football and basketball. My favorites in no particular order are SU, Michigan, LSU, VT Soldier field, Boulder, West Point, UW. Obviously there are some great places to tailgate ect.. but from a pure game experience these are my favorites for college and pro football as only Soldier field has a great vibe. Mile High is ok but once inside its the same as every other pro stadium. Now that SU has completed the upgrade i doubt that many colleges can beat our enviornment.
