Opening Day in Tokyo

People hate the idea of opening the season in Japan, but I am pretty excited to wake-up to major league baseball in the morning. It is certainly an inconvenience for the teams involved, but I do believe these international series are good for the league. One area in which both MLB and the NBA have outpaced the NFL is international growth.

That will always be the case, American Football will never be global, it’s just not set up to be.

They tried like hell though, the WFL which got as worldly as Honolulu and then NFL Europe.

Something no other sport/league has tried.

The NFL plays 4 games in London each year.
The sport is very popular in Germany.
The sport just can’t put a franchise in Europe.
The NBA could create a European division if they wanted drastic expansion.
Madrid, Barcelona, London, Berlin, Paris could support NBA basketball.

Down the road maybe that happens.
Baseball is the sport the least growth in Europe.
Baseball matters in Japan/Korea/Central and Latin American/Carribean.
