Sports is all about optimism. Most of our lives are about the in basket and the out basket or the assembly line and our ambitions are to not get fired and get a pension someday. Sports gives us a chance to have dreams of shared glory and the possibility that one day might be better than other days or one year more special than the rest. Yet there's no real downside because in the end, it's just a game.
If a championship isn't on our radar, we can always hope to just be better than last year, or last week. We want two things out of a game. We want to win and we want to do so in a way that creates optimism for the next game. Against Villanova we got the first thing done, (by the skin of our teeth), but not the second and the two weeks until the next game were not very pleasant, (but better than they would have been had we lost). The Central Michigan gave us both and this next week will be a lot more fun because of it.
