Orange Tipoff: Friday, October 13

Probably correct, but maybe they could charge for the stream and continue to make tickets to attend in person free. Would reach out of towners, and locals would probably still go. They want to reach out of towners, as demonstrated by them going to Rochester preseason now.

I’d totally pay a few bucks to get to watch that.

And since I’m several hours away, I’d never attend, so why won’t they

Exactly. I'm not going to drive 2 hours from the Albany area, but I would pay $20 to watch it in my living room. Net positive for Syracuse. Sell a package of Tip Off and Monroe Madness. If I lived 10 minutes away, I'd still go for a night out and to see the players.

I don't think you'd get too many people paying $20 for a glorified practice. Even if they charged $5, I still don't think there's enough buyers that would justify the production costs.

I think you might be right. I consider myself a diehard. I paid to watch the overseas tour several years ago and I always watch every game including exhibitions. But it really has to resemble something like a real game to really get my interest. Guess I'm getting old :)

I've been going to these for years. There's a reason we used to have this event at Manley when it still had a basketball court. We typically do not get a great draw for this event. We are usually lucky to have 5,000 people there. The interest just isn't there outside of the diehards.

As long as they charge something. A free event in the past ended up in people getting stabbed.

If you want to attract people make it worthwhile. They are giving away a TV to a lucky student while other schools potentially give away free tuition.

Let a season ticket holder shoot a half court shot with a chance to win free season tickets. Or a three pointer for free parking or free club 44 passes. Make it fun.

I think it's fun, but I am a basketball junkie. It should be exciting just to see the new team.

Yeah I mean I consider myself a junkie on collegebasketball in general, so definitely cuse asxwell and I wouldn’t pay, drive the few hours to attend, etc. maybe if it was how it was 10-15 years ago I’d watch, but not now. I don’t think it’s cuse exclusive though. Midnight madness used to be a lot bigger at other schools too.

I think last time I want this someone got stabbed?

Edit, I see this was already discussed. Happy to know IM not crazy

Well, I live 3 miles from the Dome and because I tested positive yesterday (Day 11) I am going to go masked and sit behind one of the baskets by myself. That might qualify as “desperate” to some but it seems “easy” to me.
