Oregon Hoops is broke

Almost all of their money goes to football but it’s surprising that they’re this thinned out. Moving to the Big 10 didn’t really help.
Yeah this is where is my thought is too. Plus they lived on the Canadian kids, juco kids and transfers in general and now everyone is doing it, but with money to offer.

Maybe I’m misinterpreting but it doesn’t sound like they’re broke to me. Sounds like he was going to reduce NIL to returning guys for performance reasons, causing many to leave.

How would moving to the richest conference with the best TV deal hurt?

Which is what we should have done with Donnie - which would likely have forced him to the portal anyways (but JAB ran him off first.)

Is it known for a fact that Donnie left because of what JB said? Maybe it didn’t help matters, but I think regardless of whatever he said, Donnie wanted his payday, and we weren’t going to give it to him. No cash, we dash.

They are competing for about 2/3 of their season’s games with fellow conference programs that are getting just as much if not more since they are new members.

No, it's not known as a published fact... But ITK's posted here that Donnie's camp was not happy after the JAB round of interviews that essentially threw him under the bus publicly.

If you don't want to believe that, that's your prerogative, but it certainly sounds plausible based on what was said.

No, I believe the shared info is legit. And I’d be a bit pissed myself. My point was that I don’t think that is the reason he portaled. I think it was about Benjamins, and we weren’t going to pay him the $3M or whatever he’s asking. It sucks that he had to watch Nait George earning twice as much as him last year and putting no effort in. But Donnie looked less than enthusiastic in several games as well. It was time to refresh.

They are still a legit company, but Nike isn’t exactly Nike anymore. They’ve been fading since the pandemic.
Agreed. It used to be the only sneaker you'd see people wearing. Now, there are all kinds. I see a lot of Brooks (which is my shoe of choice).

If I were Donnie I’d move on too. There’s $$ of course, but also he deserves to be on a team in his college career that’s more of a lock to play in March. He showed some loyalty and trust in Red in coming back, and I could understand why he wouldn’t want to risk another year on a losing team. I’m excited to watch Gerry coach next year but the reality is hes working on a turnaround.
