Hope he fired his agent.
Little comfort, but his agent kind of fired himself.Hope he fired his agent.
Like the dude but he played himself. Should've fired the agent and taken the $ and played for team Canada last summer. The saga continues, Wu-Tang, Wu-Tang... but no Triumph

Ex-Celtics Wing Battling Free Agency Frustrations After Title Run
Former Celtics forward and current free agent Oshae Brissett voiced his frustrations with NBA unemployment during his latest YouTube vlog.nesn.com
And beaten. He had the Celtics option. His agent should be fired
Did his agent talk him into this (or not try to talk him out of it)?He had the Celtics option. His agent should be fired
Yeah, once you have a spot, it’s dumb to give it up.Whenever this thread pops up I feel genuinely sad for Oshae. Such a great kid and he does some great things on the court. He should 100% be on a roster right now. I hope something works out for him soon.
I have to wonder if there was more to this situation behind the scenes? I get betting on yourself, wanting a better opportunity, and all that, but you would think his agent had to know at least a little bit if his client had a market? He had the Celtics option. His agent should be fired

Pre-NIL, we knew college guys got bags through back channels. Does it happen in the pros? Like are there situations where a team will pay a player indirectly maybe sometime in the future to NOT take his player option?
In this case, a team like the Celtics would be motivated to do that if paying Oshae to not take his player option benefits them in significant luxury tax savings. May seem unlikely, but I find it hard to believe that NBA teams operate completely within the rules all the time.
The only case of back-channel money I remember hearing about was with Andre Kirilenko and the Nets. The owner was allegedly paying him through one of his Russian businesses. At that point in his career, Kirilenko didn't end up adding much. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I don't know of any other cases.I have to wonder if there was more to this situation behind the scenes? Joe Smith. Not identical, but similar flavor of under the table deal. The only case of back-channel money I remember hearing about was with Andre Kirilenko and the Nets. Good call - I remember everyone saying "you did that for JOE SMITH??"Joe Smith. Not identical, but similar flavor of under the table deal.
The bizarre saga of Joe Smith's illegal Minnesota Timberwolves contract
If an NBA team planned to sign a player to an illegal contract that could cost them a ton of money and future draft picks, they’d better be sure the player is worth it. That’s a risk you take to bring in a superstar, a franchise-changing player who can make you a title contenftw.usatoday.com

Oshae Brissett talks Celtics departure, NBA free agency, and return to basketball
Boston Celtics champion Oshae Brissett signed a deal with the Long Island Nets in the G League, and he spoke with Hardwood Houdini about his journey back.hardwoodhoudini.com
I will never understand how he went undrafted, fought his way into the NBA, became a fringe/bench player on a championship team and then turn down a guaranteed contract from them. I could understand if he was a fringe player who excelled when given an opportunity for a lot of minutes due to a rotation player being out (ie: Jordan Poole). He had some good moments when he came off the bench but nothing exceptional to make him believe that he could be a highly regarded free agent. Thanks for sharing. This quote jumped out at me.
“I feel like I always say it's tough to stay in the NBA more than get on a team,” said Brissett. “So, you kind of have to do what you do to stay there.“
Sooo…he did the exact opposite of what he always says? I get wanting more playing time, but just baffled a fringe player would turn down a guaranteed year in the NBA. Hope he can grind his way back.
