Sept 6 is a bye week for SU, so I'm kicking around the idea of taking in a game at West Point. (Never been there.)

Anybody know of any bus trips planned for the game? Is it worth the hassle of driving from the Syracuse area? Is Amtrak an option?

Appears that there are plenty of good seats still available--any suggestions what sections are better than others?

Lots of good info on Mark's tailgating site, but wanted/needed more information. Thanks in advance for your help.

UB could be in for a rough season.. I got high hopes though.

Lost Mack, their 2 top receivers and their all time great running back.

Assuming you are coming from Syracuse, here is some info for you...

The game has been scheduled for a noon kickoff. The earliest train from Syracuse to West Point on gameday arrives at Croton-on-Harmon at 11:56 AM. It is 14 miles from there to West Point; you have to get a cab and cross the Hudson too. No way you will get there in time on that train.

There are several options to take a train on Friday, where you could arrive at Croton-Harmon anytime between 11:55 am and 8:55 pm. If you want to go via train, that would be the way to go.

To get back to Syracuse, you could take the Lakeshore Limited Saturday night, which leaves Croton-Harmon at 4:26 pm and arrives in Syracuse at 9:41 pm. Or stay in West Point or thereabouts 2 nights and leave on Sunday.

Cost round trip with the cheapest fare and no discounts would be $114.

Linkage

I think the train is a fun way to travel, especially if going with kids. Love the way West Point looks as you pass it on the other side of the Hudson. But it does take a long time and most of the train ride is kind of boring and dreary.

It is only 218 miles to West Point from Syracuse (via Route 17). Google Maps says it should take 3 hours and 23 minutes. The ride is an easy one and quite pretty. Given the convenience, I would go that way.

Regardless, go to West Point and watch a game. It is an amazing place to visit, the campus is gorgeous, the views of the river and surrounding countryside from Michie are awesome and the atmosphere and history are special.

I think every college football fan should make a stop there at some point in their life.

Thanks, Tomcat. After reviewing options, I am leaning towards driving down and staying overnight. Still would consider a bus trip if one becomes available. I think I will buy tics early--they're reasonable enough and the seating choices seem pretty damn good this far in advance of the game!

Never been to the Point, and as an Army vet, it seems almost sacrilegious that I haven't done so. Gonna cheer for the Black Knights while wearing my SU cap! (Sorry Bulls fans)
