OT: Attendance at Miami game Saturday (picture)

I don't disagree at all. It is life down there. but only for football. Other sports don't enjoy the same level of dedication, but we still get compared to those areas as where she should be. That is just never going to happen. I do believe that when SU gets rolling again (and it will), if they bring "name" teams to the dome, we can average 40k.

If SU can average 43+ they will be fine...I'd love to see a time when it's hard to get a ticket but that hasn't happened in my lifetime and I'm talking about the whole year, not after they have gone undefeated/or done really well after X amount of games.

Actually, I think most northeasterners (and I am talking primarily about I-95 corridor residents between Philly and Maine) are neither pro OR college football fans. Baseball may still be more popular than football in these parts, and the arts are probably more popular than football and baseball combined. I don't know where leaf raking falls in the heirarchy, nor do I claim much familiarity with shopping. Kids sports -- youth soccer, varsity and JV athletics, little league, etc. also occupy tons of people in the Westchester County, Jersey and Massachusetts towns I am most familiar with.

The pool of potential fans is just proportionally smaller in the NE than in SEC or B1G country. That doesn't mean SU can't regularly draw 45,000 fans and curiosity seekers on a regular basis. It will take WINNING and one hell of a marketing plan to do it, however. In my opinion we are 40% there on both fronts.

Miami is a pro town and heck they suck and that is saying it nicely when it comes to baseball. When you have choices it makes a difference and much like the nyc mantra they will follow a winner...obviously that goes for central new york as well.

That is the typical northeastern look at college football. In most of the south it's their life passion. Not saying one is right or wrong just that it's the way it is. We as a whole are more pro football orientated.

This is a great point! At a lot of these schools with large crowds in the south and Big 10, its a tradition that has been passed down and it's a family affair. it's normal to see die-hard women, men, and children, in the northeast, it's mostly men and their sons who follow college football IMO. My wife would rather be on Pinterest all day!

It's really nice having so many people willing to tell you what kind of fan (or non fan) you are. I love SU sports, but I love my family more. Football games are an event, not a way of life for me. If you happen to be in a marriage or relationship that includes sporting events as something the family does together, great! I can absolutely see where the tailgating and games become part of your life. Unfortunately, it's not so simple as that for everyone. Condescending remarks about raking leaves, mowing lawns, and the like serve no purpose but to polarize fans. Going to more games doesn't necessarily make you a better fan. Who's the better fan? The guy who goes to every game, leaves early when they are losing, boos the players, and curses out the coaches, or the fan that goes when he can, cheers from the opening kickoff to the end, and supports the team the best he can, given his means and level of vested interest. For me, I'd rather have 1000 of the second than 3000 of the first type.

Bottom line for me is that fans that judge and criticize other fans because they don't fall into their own definition of being a fan are not helping.

Come on man...you really need to reassess your priorities. :D

Miami didn't fill the stadium back in '01 whenthey were undefeated #1 on their way to the title and Syracuse had rolled off 8 straight wins. Pretty pathetic, but so was the game, god that sucked being there seeing that bird flaunt out to midfield after every TD
