OT - Billy Joel at Dome

GREAT concert.

Yep. It was awesome!! I was there in 1990 and think this one was better. My only complaint is that he didn't play 'Goodnight Saigon'. That song is incredible live.

Joel is still very much on his game at 65. He sounded great.

I was in section 130 down in front, what a great show. My niece and her husband were on the big screen during Piano Man

I'm not entirely sure who he was, but that Gomez fellow from the radio station provided a pretty silly interlude. That dude kind of annoyed me.

"And now I get to congratulate you on being a great father!" Huh?

that was the dumbest thing ever, embarrassing. It almost felt like the good dr. had something to do with it

Fantastic concert!

Parking and traffic were a nightmare.

The boarding of buses was so poorly organized that we WALKED back to Skytop. Took us 30-40 minutes to walk there, but it was the right call. We would have waited an hour for a bus.

Great show! Maybe I'll sound that good when I'm 65.

so what was the issue with parking that made it worse than a fball game?

Some would call this question a hanging curveball...so many more people than for a football game ;)

I was trying to figure that out too. There are some people saying they were stuck in traffic for 2 hours and that when they finally reached Skytop the lot was full. Personally when it's a big game like Clemson was a couple of years ago, RT81 is the worst way to try to get up to the hill.

With all of the studies on what they're going to do with the overpass, last night should be a perfect example of how inefficient and outdated that viaduct is. I heard the traffic was backed up for miles on 81S.

Damn you! We debated that for 30-40 and then waited 53 hours for the bus. I did get to see a person fall while climbing over some snow. And a VERY drunk extremely short-haired blond girl whom after finishing her quest of looking for a lighter, at one point grabbed me in a semi-hug while stumbling through the crowd and asked:

"What's is all this about? What are we, waiting for a bus?"

Uh, yeah, we are literally waiting for a bus. That's why there are 9 buses in parked in front of the sidewalk.

I think the number of ppl, versus the number of people that have never been to the Carrier Dome helped make it worse. More ppl seemed to be parked in those lots than normal, and ppl seemed clueless. Seemed like 1/3 of the ppl on the Sky Top side waited in line for an hour b4 realizing they were Manley. A lot didn't seem to know the difference.

I've never noticed that as much at sporting events.

We came in from Rochester and Skytop was full by the time we got there. We ended up being parked at an apartment on south campus. Then the shuttle dropped us off at Skytop at the end of the night and we had to walk a ways back to find our car.

The whole thing was very unorganized.

Yea, many many people who don't go to games and don't know the ins and outs of getting to an event at the Dome. I actually ran into 4 friends who aren't sports enthusiasts who attended and it was their very first time in the Dome. 81s was already a mess at 6 when I headed there but I know to stay off it and exit at Clinton. There's 100 ways to get to the Dome area but I think 35k of the 38k there thought 81 was the only way.

You can take the bus back down - just for future reference. They drop at Skytop first. Then drop off again. Most ppl get off and walk though...

The university should look into running shuttles from the ballpark like they do for the state fair. Like bees said, if you've never been to the dome before you have no idea how bad traffic can get on RT81 because everyone thinks the highway will get them there quicker. There was virtually no traffic coming up University Ave. at 6pm, you never see that on a game day. I had a harder time trying to get in a bar to get a drink once we parked, every place was full.

DJ's only had 2 bartenders working, Faegan's was at capacity and wouldn't let anyone in, Lucy's had a $5 cover charge, WHAT?, Varsity had a line going down the sidewalk, ended up in Harry's and still couldn't get a drink. Decided to go straight to the dome, and this was at about 6:15.

What? Just hang out at the Pita Pit for an hour or two! :)

God, I wish they would open a second location in Syracuse..

I'll remember that for the next time, I will definitely check it out. There were lines coming out of most places on Marshall St., I honestly haven't seen it that busy since the Clemson game.

We didn't settle on that decision lightly. We weren't exactly thrilled to walk in the cold, but the bus situation was such a cluster that we decided it would be faster. And we were right. People had NO CLUE which side was which, and people thought that if you lined the side walk all of the buses would open their doors. Nope. Only the first two in line open their doors. It was a complete sh!tshow. After 10 minutes of realizing the line wasn't moving and not enough buses were coming, we walked. Left the bus stop at 11:45 and were at the car before 12:30, home by 1:00.

I will tell all of you the best place to park. The UAG University Ave Garage. If you arent tailgating, you can easily get in and out. You head up university ave and park. Getting out is a snap. The trick is to take those back streets like fayette and washington near the center of excellence. Stay off the main drags. We were on 690 in 10 minutes.
