* Dont continue reading if you haven't seen the episode.

This has to be my favorite show for two years running now and I thought this season was great.
That being said I was very dissapointed in the ending tonight, how can you kill of Jimmy? Thats like killing Tony Soprano in season 2, I just dont understand it. Will be interesting to see how they go forward with Season 3 as Jimmy was really an intregal character. I will still watch but bummed to see my favorite character killed off that way.

I just finished watching it and I certainly didn't see that coming. Wow. The last 3 episodes of this season were epic.

I love Boardwalk Empire as well. Was it the final show of the season or the series finale?

Season finale, I read somewhere a 3rd season is approved and will begin next fall. I agree was a great season especially the last three episodes. Also the end with Margaret giving the land to the church was a nice cliff hanger. Still I wonder if they will regret getting rid of Jimmy, it leaves a lot of loose ends and ends a focal point of the series.

Thanks Extreme, interesting answers from the Producer, I can understand the rationale behind killing of Jimmy but still dont like it at all. Seems I wasnt the only one I guess theres been a pretty big backlash. I wouldnt be surprised if they work something out where it was a dream sequence or something, would love to have him back next season.

GREAT show. From the acting, to the sets, music, costumes, etc. Scorcese spent the most money in television history for the pilot...18M! Chalky White, Richard, Jimmy, Nucky...good stuff!

I was disappointed that Nucky did not kill his brother Eli as well. Eli's betrayal was just as big if not bigger than Jimmy's.

You knew he was going to go at some point, but didn't see it happening yet. Great character.

Yeah I watched it as well. They could always go the dream route or it was a fake killing lol. What grossed me out was the incest. ewwwwww.

I was thinking the same thing but the Nucky shot him again and he was definitely dead. Unless he somehow survived a bullet to the head, obviously not impossible but with 1920's medical technology you would have to place it at what 5% if that. Just seems odd they would keep Eli alive and Horowitz. That Horowitz character doesnt add much to the show and would Knucky really do business with him over Waxy Gordon. Still cant wait till season 3 but as others have noted
this maybe a jump the shark moment for the show.

Yeah, couldn't believe the HBO writers did that. You could tell though, from the beginning she was very weird and made everything awkward. Another great HBO series. But yeah, killing off Jimmy? I think Al Capone becomes huge next season.

I think it was anything but a jump the shark moment. A jump the shark moment would be if Jimmy was still alive. This took guts. They didn't take a cheap way out. Tough to see what direction the show takes from here.

Show might still be good but it was nice to see a character like Jimmy develop and there was literally a thousand differnt ways they could have taken his character next season. Now there going to have to utilize Capone and Luciano and the other real life characters who are allready well known due to there real life exploits. Jimmy being a fictional character could have gone in a million different directions with Richard by his side and his friendship with Capone. Seems were destined for more Nucky vs Margaret battles in season 3 which to be honest is allready played out.

In the interview I read with the producers they said the next season would jump forward in time a bit to like 1923-ish. They also indicated that Capone was going to take on a bigger role as the real life Capone started to come into his power in Chicago around 1924 or 25. This might be why they had the FBI agent move to Illinois. Would give him the chance to interact with the Chicago mob more.

It will be interesting to see where it goes. I do however agree with JeremyCuse in that the whole Nucky/Margaret thing has already become boring.

... i don't even know what to say...

anywho... I just watched the finale... What?? Manny over Jimmy??? kill Eli god dammit.

Jeremy, I don't disagree with you. I was just saying that it was nota jump the shark. Whether it was wise or not, very much remains to be seen.

Great shows aren't afraid to do that. I'm a bit in shock. This is one of the most underrated shows on TV and as great as the first season was, the second was even better. Obviously Margaret's final act is going make things a little interesting to start season 3.

Also, as an aside, the previews for Game of Thrones are just. Hopefully it blows up in popularity next year so HBO can justify 5 or 6 seasons. If you read the books, there are two events in Storm of Swords that i really need to see played out in the series.

You can argue that Jimmy was a more important character than Nucky. Without Jimmy there is no connection to Capone and Luciano. Jimmy was the gangster of AC. Nucky is the old way of doing things. He doesn't fit with the new guys.

Jimmy was also the connection to Gillian and Harrow. It makes no sense to keep them as major characters. So this season the show has essentially killed off the Commodore, Jimmy, Angela, Gillian, Harrow, Neary, Van Alden, and Lucy. That is a lot of people. And IMO it will be dumb to continue having Capone and Luciano play large roles without Jimmy. It would make no sense.

BWE is a weird show for me. They will have like 3-4 shows in a row where I am bored out of my mind and about to give the show up. Then they will have a great show. This happened a few times each season. And every time I was drawn back in, it revolved around Jimmy.

The characters that are left are either based on real people that can't be changed or people I don't care about (Margaret, Mickey, Owen, Eli, and even Nucky). I think Chalky is the only one left I like. Also isn't this show supposed to be about AC? It seems like the show will move on to be more about Chicago. That is fine if the title were Gangster and not BWE.

How about that Van Alden?? What a crazy character! GREAT actor.

BWE is a great show. I too was shocked they killed off Jimmy who really was the co-top character in the series. And in my view the most interesting character and best story line. I expected Nucky to turn around and kill Eli too...disappointing that he didn't. I don't see what they do going forward without Jimmy. They will probably have to add a new character to get another story line.

It seemed to come down to one choice: Jimmy vs. Eli

One of them was not going to survive. If you noticed Jimmy said it was Eli's idea to kill Nucky and Eli said it was Jimmy's. It basically came down to Nucky choosing family, even though it turns out that it was Eli's idea and he was the one who pushed to have Nucky killed. Wouldn't surprise me if this eventually plays/comes out later with Nucky regretting his decision.
