Agree, Clawson is from Youngstown, not far from Buffalo. Very good coach. I like the hire a lot (for them anyway).

This might affect UB more than anyone; they have done well mining the under recruited Western NY football region.

I like the hire. HC experience and has turned programs around. I love Shafer but Clawson is the type of coach I would have liked. Don't really know how he is as a recruiter though. We're recruiting two Wake kids pretty heavily right now this might have turned it back in their favor (although both are defense kids).

Speaking of salary - did anyone catch what Washington is going to pay Peterson ? It's over 3 mil and increases in each year of his contract. Tops out at 4 mil. That's just nutty.

Clawson is a terrific offensive coach. Much of Mike London's ascent into the UVA job is due to what Clawson built up at Richmond before leaving. One year later, Richmond won a 1-AA title and London bolted to Charlottesville. Clawson had one bad year with Fullner at TN before taking the Bowling Green job and built that program back up. He's a great hire.

I hope this is wrong also and we are able to get some of what was taken from us a year ago. but there are some fundamental differences between our situation last year and what is going on with Wake.

1. Wake was terrible this year, they have nowhere to go but up. They are selling playing time opportunity, academics, and possible glimmer of hope of winning in the future. We were selling a resurgent program driven by the will power and tenacity of one guy - and that guy left. Just a totally different backdrop and likely a very different kind of recruit in terms of what they value in a school.

2. Wake did things right - the coach is gone and quickly replaced with someone with a good reputation well in advance of signing day and before the quiet period. There wasn't weeks of rumors and no comment from the coach or the AD, with kids getting misinformation etc.

Very good hire. Don't know how good Wake will be right away - they lose pretty much everyone off a mediocre-at-best-when-healthy team, but he's a good coach.
