I was saying exactly this to my wife. Not in philosophy of course, but in the theater and imagery. He's running plays right out of the mid-30s play book. His entire speech and all the images supporting it were directed 85% at the new recruits visiting and 15% at their parents.

Because people pay attention to their coverage of Cal and all things UK, and they're in business to get good ratings and make money. There's even a thread on the Syracuse board about his speech and SU and UK aren't rivals and haven't played in over a decade. Same applies for Duke, they're hated by a lot of people but they get ratings because of that.

Also I'm pretty sure Cal gives ESPN access to the program so theyre on ESPN all the time. He is a lot of things, but stupid isn't one of them

If success is measured by wins and tournament results, Cal is one of the best. He's had an elite eight, final four and a national championship just in the past four seasons, even if he's had the best players, another area he dominates. Kentucky fans are some of the best in the country, too.

Even if his methods are questionable and he's an arrogant pr*&@, Kentucky is arguably the premier program in the country at the moment.
